Hi, some of you might know that I own I high boost supercharged car that I'm taking the engine out of to fit to my 306 dimma.

The dimma needs alot of work and as I work full time 60h+ and I go to afghan for 4 months every year the shell won't be ready for the engine until this time next year.

The insurance has just ended on the sc car so I won't be driving it anymore, what's the best thing todo to keep the engine and charger in good condition? Starting it up every week until it gets upto temp is obvious but the charger fluid needs replacing. Would it be advised to change the traction fluid for storage?

As for storage, I definitely wouldn't start it at all, as this is where most of the engine wear will come from. Yes
My car is also off the road, just parked up in the garage. I turn the engine over by hand every two weeks just so that it (and the charger) sit in a different place. I wouldn't change the traction fluid for storage, just make sure you've got some new stuff and a filter to go with it for when you do get it running again. Thumbs up

Nice one stan didn't think about just turning it over by hand, like u say it will save engine wear and the cost of fuel!

Thanks for removing them, it kept on saying too many users so I just clicked back and resent until the message went away and I returned to the forum! Strange

I was doing a turbo build but when I was in the gan last year I sold it all and just purchased the sc car instead! Maybe once the Dimms is done and another trip to afghan I might think about a turbo project again!

Take the plugs out, disconnect the crank sensor and turn it over on the starter motor until it builds up some oil pressure. No real need to start it everytime, just puts stress on the components for no real reason, and as Stan says, when the engines running on cold oil thats when most wear occurs, albeit not much. Would be worthwhile starting it up and running too temp occasionally though, just keeps any moving components from seizing up etc.

Probably getting some parts of some kind, think you where at the front doors stripping an engine, didn't say hi as I was in a rush!

Thanks pete, a combination of turning over by hand and a few engine starts should keep everything lubricated nicely!
Hopefully it won't be that long before the engine gets swapped, could get it done by fcs but not worth rushing so I'll take my time :-)

With all the Pug engine's I;ve seen even TT ones from my mates store, Most of them havn;t moved for more years than I care to remember, but with a new battey they start up without any issues at all, Just make sure it's not damp and that's about it

But deffo do not start it up, this is the worst thing you can do

There are certain procedures you should follow though when preparing to start the engine for the first time after a long storage period. Yes

If the engine hasn't been started for a long time, you should take the plugs out, disconnect the injectors and drop a tiny amount of engine oil into the bores. This lubricates the rings on initial startup. You should also spin the engine over on the starter with no plugs for as long as it takes for the oil pressure light to go out (normally around 15 seconds).
Then you should refit the plugs, reconnect the injectors and startup immediately.

By doing this you have raised oil pressure in the block ready for starting without putting a huge load on the big ends which will of had dry bearings. Now they will have oil in them, and you haven't damaged them because when you was building the oil pressure the engine had no compression due to lack of plugs. Wink

Following these guidelines will see you have no issues. Smile
