I've not really driven much over the last couple of months due to my back. I've just been out for the first proper drive of my rallye, and it's great! I didnt realise just how quick these things were! I'm very impressed!

Now, do I keep it or not?? Hmmm.

On a side note, when I was out I stopped off at my mates for a couple of hours, and when I restarted the car there was no smoke. I gave it a good driving on the way home now so I'll wait till tomorrow for a proper cold start before I come to any conclusions! Big grin

Ha ha! I will!!

I got it from eBay mate. I'll try and see if my eBay still has the sellers name. It's not a genuine Omp wheel though!

Yeah it's very good! It might be real, I'm not too sure!

This is the one I got iirc:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-SUEDE-DEEP-DISH-CORSICA-STEERING-WHEEL-FIT-MOMO-OMP-SPARCO-BOSS-KITS-350MM-/200729704278?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2ebc6c3756

The 'MLR' on the actual wheel on my was a sticker over the Omp engraving. But on that pic it doesn't show the stitching too well. So it might be a gamble if it's the exact same one or not!

I did a load of work to mine last year (suspension, steering, engine mods etc) and just as it was coming to a close I got sent overseas and am yet to enjoy it! Got even more tasty bits to attach to it when i get home but looking forward to driving it as much as I am the TVR!

It still smokes on start up! It must just be a bit of oil seeping into he bores slowly! If it doesn't sell in the next couple of weeks, I'll strip it down, rebuild it, then sell it for a price that it's actually worth!

Do you or anyone know roughly how much it would cost to get new valve stem seals fitted?? Along with new head bolts, head gasket and cam belt? Is there anything else that would need replacing?

only part I would get from a dealer would be cam seals and the head gasket, maybe oils and filter+coolant if they have special offers.

you need some decent spring compressors to swap the stem seals, TBH I'd just ask the guy's sorting the head to fit them for you save buying a tool you'll only ever use 16 times and probably take a few hours to sort when the specialists have air powered ones and take an hour at the most Big grin

Is the smoke Blue or Black? Have you done a compression test to try and eliminate the rings? These can cause it on start up then will form better seal as the engine warms and stop.

Stem seals in my experience not only do it on start up but also if you leave it idle for a few mins then blip the throttle you should still see a little puff even when warm.

Either way I'd sell it as it is, it looks like you have it well priced for what it is so I don't think you'd have a problem selling. You spend money on it and ask top money You'll struggle more to to sell Imo

It's blue smoke. I'll do a compression test tomorrow and see if it shows anything up! I'd have thought someone would have snapped it up at this price especially with all the parts that are included! But i guess not! Yeah once the engine has a little heat in it the smoke stops completely!

Sounds more like it could be the rings but if it's only one of the oil control rings a bit worn there is a good chance a compression test wont show it up. It's still worth a check though and also looking at the plugs when you do it may give an idea of which cylinder has the problem.

Try what i said with getting it warm aswell though as it's a good way to check, let it idle for a good few minutes then give it quite a sharp blip of the throttle whilst watching to see if that makes it smoke, if it does that will almost certainly be the stem seals and if it doesnt I can't see them being the cause.
