The speakers in the china arnt great an I love my music, got a Sony
Mex-bt3900u head unit which I really like, there are tweeters already so not an issue, basically decent rear speakers that will fit the shelf and not need much wiring in, sub and amp are a possibility also. Front speakers are ruined due to bad installation from one of the previous owners lol, but I've got some Sony 200w fronts so should be ok. Any advice would be great, cheers

Buy a decent head unit

Buy some decent components caliber are excellent.

If you have a very good HU the standard rear speaker arent too bad believe it or not, if not replace with coaxials.

Then run a 10" kick witha very small closed box think mines 11 litres had to get that custom made though, subs sound s**t unless your going to spend a fortune as you have nothing nothing nothing BOOOOMM because it cant play half the ranges.

As Anth has said, if you get some decent components up front and amp then, you won't need to spend anything on the rears. I've got my system faded to the front:back 80/20. Shows how little the rear shelf speakers add.

Oh, and if anyone says chuck some 6x9's in the shelf, punch them in the face.

I can make you a list, but I'm from Belgium so I have no idea where to get it all :p
A friend of me is a car-audio dealer too, so might be able to send over a whole setup!

Most important question: what are you willing to spend?
And are you into 2ehand stuff or only new stuff?

Well to be honest I'm not sure how much things cost, I don't mind spending a fair whack if it's good stuff, depends on price of new and second hand and the quality of the second hand obviously!

Those caliber components you've had anth are really getting rare, been looking for an affordable and (almost) plug&play alternative. (might be onto something)

@playboyb: check PM

Anyhow I'd go for a new composet up front (amped up or not is up to you, keep in mind that if you're going to combine this with a subwoofer you'll probably need to work with 2amps, which will take more effort, material, sigs :p and work off course)
Paired with a small 8" (or 10" if you have a little more space to spare) with a suitable amp.

Plenty of amps on the market that will do components up front and sub in the boot - you get what you pay for in car audio so you will need to buy a good quality multi channel amp that can do mono and stereo in one Thumbs up

Regarding sub/amp, I see we are able to get an active sub now, ported enclosure, built in amp, 8" sub 150w rms, looks promising for its price Smile

I was looking at the JL audio HD900/5
4 x 100 + 500 x1 mono or
2 x 200 + 500 x 1 mono would need to get the right ohms though

Love the JL gear and still think the slash series is the dogs bollox Cool

JL has very nice stuff, but hard to come by around here, can't help you with that sorry
(I know most big dealers in Belgium and know of only 2 or so that can get JL)

If you go JL, take the impedances into account, iirc they use (or used) 1.5/3/6ohm coils, as 95% of the other brands use 1/2/4/8 (etc...) ohm (makes a difference in the power ratings too) I might be able to help you out on that too if you're unsure about anything.

FYI: I'm far from a professional, it's just a hobby (that got a little out of hand) and I'm sort of 'quitting' Razz

rarely do installs anymore, just some support with choosing stuff and connecting/finetuning afterwards Smile

I have a really good 12" Audiosystem sub in a ported box if anyone has a use for it.

You can push 1000wrms through it.
