The interior light works fine, but does not illuminate when the driver's door is opened. It does actuate when the passenger's door is opened - though since I dismantled it to check works now only when the door is partway open (i.e. illuminates while the door is being opened and goes out again when the door is fully open).

Swapping the passenger side switch into the driver's door wiring produces the same result. However the light does illuminate when a metal part of the switch is grounded on the door frame (with either switch).

So it is not the wiring, and not the switch. I'm stumped. I cleaned and lubed both switches as I think it must be some kind of earthing problem. I cleaned the fixing screws as well as the switch seems to earth through these?

Anyone BTDT?

Oh and by the way I lost the passenger wiring inside the door frame (F**********K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) but managed to get it back again by making a plastic loop, snaring the end of the wiring inside the pillar and pulling it back out (PHEW!!!).

even though swapping the working passenger switch to the driver's side produced the same result?

Probably best replace both switches anyway.

The best engine in the world is the vagina, it takes any size piston, its self lubricating, starts with 1 finger, and every 4 weeks does its own oil change. It's just a pity the management system is so fecking temperamental.

Sounds like the door loom wiring to the switch is breaking up.
It will work when the door is in a certain position, but move the door and you move the wiring and break the circuit.
