Ive stripped down the dash to install a battery cutoff switch, and whilst getting things to fit I found this:

What is it? Is it important? And can I remove it? Also, it's got a second smaller cable which runs down to a connection just under the center console. Anyone know what it goes to?

transponder unit, it'll be connected to the ecu and the aerial for the chip in the key, plus a few other bits, c/l iirc.

you could remove it but that'd disable your car LOL

Definitely has something to do with central locking Yes

I asked the same question and was told it was to do with immobiliser. As my car doesnt have an OEM immobiliser anymore I removed that black box, and when I locked the car only drivers door locked. Back in you go then Laugh
