I have just noticed that i have some lacquer peeel on the drivers door above the window.

It is about 3 to 5mm wide by about 20mm long.

Can anything be done to prevent further spread?

Not really, once it's gone it's gone. A fine sand of the edges can help smooth it slightly but that's the best you can really do with it.

i dont think so but only way i could think off would be to use wax or somthing similar over it to stop water getting at it or it flaking off while driving or get it respray'd but thats the more costly option LOL Smile

Thanks lads .

I feared this may be the case.

Would respray have to be whole door or just a patch?

i feathered back the edges on mine and gave it a coat of lacquer, seems to have stopped and thats right at the front of the bonnet.

Just be careful not to rub through the paint like i did!

Could do that as a temp fix if you've got mad painting skillz. Will never look right though unless you repaint it.

Good thing about the doors is they have the black vinyl on the B-pillar so you only need to blend paint across about 3" of metal along the A-pillar

If i was doing it, i'd pick a line to mask off at, probably just where the window surround meets the wingmirror.

I'd sand back the entire top of the door with a 600 grit wet to flatten out the peel

I'd then mask at two points higher up the door, overlapping the first and second ones respectively.

Then i'd apply a first mist coat of clear, followed by a medium weight coat.

Then i'd pull off the top bit of masking, and do another coat of clear.

Then i'd do the same for the rest of the masking.

This would stop there being a definite step in the clear which you would get if you only masked off at one point on the door. Any uneven parts could then be wetsanded and polished to be completely flat.

I'd also practice painting on spare panels before attempting something like that as a first timer would 100% f*ck the paint completely.

Once dry, i'd do a mist coat

Pratice sounds like a plan indeed. I can work a spanner and ratchet ok but bodywork has always scared me.

Need to find me an old panel somewhere at weekend and get practising.

I'm gutted cos the rest of the bodywork is good nick for the age.

PS Sorry to see your project going to 306 heaven. On a posotive note it looks like she will live on by being a doner for other 6's
