And no it's not a door seal!

Looking up inside the footwell, rain water drips down from the plastic tray that forms the top cover of the footwell. The drip originates from where the tray/cover contacts the carpet at the front of the footwell to the left hand side of the footwell, pretty much in the corner.

I think a seam is leaking inside the front scuttle under the bonnet passenger side,(essentally this is a gutter draining into the drain hole left side which is clear) but the heating suction duct is in the way. looking at it it means removing the plastic tray at the bottom of the windscreen (removing wiper arms first) but I notice there are a number of those awfull push type plastic clips which seem to never go back.

My question: anyone had this problem if so is there an easy quick fix without removing the plastic windscreen tray & heater inlet duct?

I had this recently on the drivers side turned out to be a grommet was missing in the engine bay so i filled it with expanding foam.

Heat matrix could be leaking is another alternative?

I had a small puddle 1 morning in the passenger side footwell. After inspecting the car the only thing i could find was maybe a small gap has formed at the top of the windscreen seal. I got some clear mastic to it and it hasnt hapend since. Check the windscreen seal is ok

Thanks to both of you who responded so far.

No it is not a heater matrix; none of the give away glycol smell & as it has been so cold of late the heater has been at full chat without issue.
The leak ties in with rain I'm afraid- however I will have a close look at the screen seal that too had crossed my mind but that would be too easy:-)

It could also be the small pipe that comes from the underside of the interior heater fan assembly.

if it has disconnected then you can get water into the passenger footwell.

look at the door seal on that side, give it a prod. to see if it is full of water.

Failing that see if the lining behind the speaker is broken.

Thanks to all who have replied.

Pretty certain I have found the source though; after removing the air intake duct for the fan, there is what I think is sound insulation- black pliable sheet 1.5 to 2mm thick. Well this was no longer pliable & had cracked; digging it out, found water under the sheet which would seem to drain toward the passenger drain hole in the corner of the scuttle, between the passenger wing & front bulkhead. Gummed it up with gutter sealant very sticky & remains pliable, so far,(several down pours in the wet West) so good.

Fingers crossed that's it.
