Hi guys, i have just bought a new set of gti6 calipers but the guy has painted them red.

What would you say the best way of getting the paint off would be?

They were brand new before they were painted and haven't even been used yet, the paint looks like that cheap halfords caliper paint, it is all chipped and flaking.

I was going to try some paint stripper but i am unsure if it would work on that sort of paint and if it would damage the seals? Any help much appreciated

Thanks but i want to get a nice finish on the calipers and i dont think scraping them would leave a very nice finish, ideally i want to use some sort of paint stripper and was hoping someone would know if it would damage the seals or not? thanks.

Yes it'll damage the seals. Might as well do it properly, buy a new set of seals, remove the old bits and get them sand blasted.

Hi and thanks for the reply, the calipers are brand new, they were painyed but never fitted so i really dont want to change the seals, i was looking for a quck way to do it, i will have a search of the net and see if i can find any paint stripper that would be safe to use. p.s. Happy Birthday Smile

Have you tried a wire brush fitting for a drill? that should shift it pretty easily.

As above, if it's chipping already a drill with a wire brush, or dremel if you have one will fetch it off.

The paint removal bits for a Dremel are fantastic, but expensive.
