Howdy folks!

I maybe over reacting / jumping the gun but since about Thursday last week my car has been emitting a strange whistling whirring sound when i use the loud pedal, it does it on the overrun too but its not nearly as noticeable as when I boot it.

I can't think of anything that I've done that might have caused this. Did an oil change and new plugs on Friday afternoon with Matt but this sound was apparent BEFORE we did this. It really is a strange one.

Any ideas?

Had a new exhaust recently but afaik its all been sealed properly. This sound seems higher up in the car too

It's a possibility, I will try have a listen to the engine tomorrow when I get a chance. My ears aren't working so well atm as ive got a stinking cold but I'm guessing if it is a tensioner then that's not really a good thing! I'm in portsmouth for the entire week for work also and no time to do much about it Unsure

If its an aux tensioner/pulley they tend to go on on most engines for ages, should be ok for a week or two.

The induction roar is almost smothered by this sound and makes it inaudible. It's strange driving it!
I'm hopefully guna swing by lynx power engineering and let rich have a look if its convenient for him

As Heidi says, they tend to take ages to ACTUALLY fail, but best get it checked out ASAP and then make arrangements for repair once you know where the fault lies. Thumbs up

Does this only sound when the engine is under load? Can you pinpoint it with the bonnet open and just open the throttle by hand.

Have you recently fitted a turbo? Dry

Remove drive belt and start her up, see if the noise goes.
With belt removed you will also feel any rough or worn pulley bearings, they will sound dry and probably have play in it also or even be hard to turn

Just had the bonnet up, really doesn't sound right under there, can't be certain as I'm completely inept but I think its coming from the cambelt cover! :s

Just tried to take it to Rich at lynx but couldn't find the place and kinda gave up without trying too hard. Wish I had bothered more now! Mmm will have to get it looked at asap tho

Hmm might try again tomorrow if i finish work early again.

I didnt really have the patience to look too much today but i know its around there somewhere LOL

Sat nav took me along a road with tesco on the left hand side...think its on the right hand side behind those buildings somewhere

Would be good to get his opinion on it though before i head 2 hours north home as i will probably just ignore it if i dont get it looked at!
