By heat exchanger bit you mean the small outlet on the back of the rad ? Why not just block this off if you don't need it ?

No idea what the 1.8 rad looks like I'd say it was similar to a 6 but could be wrong ?

I changed mine to use the clip and o ring instead of the old style as much easier, swapped the water hose although I need a bigger rad as gets to hot after 18laps roughly 20mins flat out

I believe some of the XSi rads do not have the heat exchanger take off on the rear of the rad...Yes

I am sure the XSi one will do the job, its essentially the same as the GTi-6 one without the heat exchanger take off. Wink

phase1 xsi has two small ports on the expansion tank plus the bayonet type bottom hose, phase 2 has the clip type and a blanked heat exchanger takeoff, though personally I'd just use the 6 rad and the heat exchanger.

just a thought. but on my phase one the front reg plate blocks some air flow to the rad. if its a track day problem you could remove this to help a bit with overheating, not so sure if the same blocked vent exsists on the later phase 2 and 3 models :s

also cleaning a coil (rad) with proper "coil" cleaner can increase efficiency by upto 50% if its really dirty. you can buy this from hrp or climate control stores pretty cheap. cleaning the inside is as important as the outside.

jimmy i run mine with out front number plate also with large diameter holes in bumper also with front griil and lower grill butchered to aid cooling probly the intercooler infront of rad not helping, but the rad i have is deff smaller then a genuine pug one, think i was told it was a derv rad i wanted as its the largest i think. also the rad is fairly new.
