what are the differences between the GTI6 and the 2 litre 8v turbo rods?

i have measured journal diameter, rod thickness, gudgeon pin diameter and they are both the same in

all respects, my 8vt rods have 'J2TE' printed on the big end. 6 rods have '240' engraved into them and

8v ones are 290

both sets of rods have interference fit in the small ends

which would use say are the strongest, 8vt or 16v? You would naturally assume the turbo rods are the better

ones, being a factory turbo'd engine

check the length, 152mm for the 8v afaik, and the earlier RFY 16v.

158mm for the later RFV and RFS engines.

the J2TE wasn't much different to the stock 2.0 8 valver, most of the components are the same, it wasn't intended as a turbo engine, they just slapped one on as a stopgap before the RFV was introduced.

ROD LENGTH: funny you should say that, the guy i work with looked at the 2 sets and said the turbo rods

were shorter, but until i can get the pistons separated and properly measured i won't know for sure

whats the best method of pushing the gudgeon pins out, i used a brass drift and gently tapped away but

their not for moving, was thinking about using localised heat on the small end to try and expand it a bit
