Got my Rallye back from the garage today. The garage owner mentioned that there was a noise from the engine which he thought was a cam belt tensioner, and that another of his blokes had remarked on it too. I haven't heard a noise which sounded out of the ordinary.

In July 2011 (2000 miles ago) I had the cam belt done (not by him) with a genuine Pug kit which of course included a tensioner. I got the standard kit for the car (T-reg Rallye) which might be the one with a plastic tensioner?

Anything I should know? I asked him whether it was tensioned correctly and he said he hadn't taken the cover off to check.

This is the first thing to do. I would imagine a standard kit for a T-reg would be the older (IMO better style of) tensioner. I am thinking along the same lines as Welshpug, it's probably one of your aux belt idlers...

I'll third the above infoThumbs up

The aux belt tensioners wear quite badly,IMO people over tighten the aux belt as its a manual tensioner which then knackers the bearings in the tensionerThumbs down

Don't buy one from Pug though,over £70No

Motor factors are circa £25 and still use quality bearingsThumbs up
