So, after buying musclebeach's P1 GTI6 a few weeks ago, I've finally been able to give it a few proper drives to see what the 306 is all about. Initial impressions are that it feels kinda like a slightly bigger and heavier 106 GTi but with more grunt. As I've driven it more though, I've realised it's a lot more than that - it's a properly sorted car. Starting with the engine, (which is an absolute peach!) it's very torquey low down, while maintaining all the high end power - and it sounds absolutely ballistic with the Magnex cat-back and PiperX! The brakes are very good, perhaps initial feel could be better; nothing happens in the first centimetre of travel - but once you give them a kick, they really bite! The chassis is what I'm most impressed with, though, it manages to be about as chuckable as the 106, while feeling way more planted and stable at speed and also being a comfortable cruiser when needed. It's brilliant!

Anyway, I've been driving it for a couple of weeks, pretty much non-stop and it's not been cleaned since my first Hello thread (http://www.306gti6.com/forum/showthread.php?id=143963) so excuse the dirt!

Drivers side door pin literally just dropped out, which is a massive ball ache! New one ordered for about £4 though, not so bad...

DSC_0932 by j0eyD, on Flickr

Also fell victim to the ridiculous right hand turning circle, which I had only just started to notice recently Sad

Oh well, they were due a refurb anyway!

Last thing wrong is this clip under the bonnet, which has snapped. So some sort of wire is being used atm. Considering whether Aero Catches would be worthwhile too as the bonnet latch is a bit rubbish and difficult to operate...

So that's pretty much it!

Looking forward to running it as a daily come March as it's very comfortable, quite quick and handles superbly!

Cheeky video too. (sound quality is kinda crap though, unfortunately.)

Fantastic!

Looks absolutely great and really glad you're chuffed with it, the engine's definitely a peach and i made sure it was driving spot on before selling it.
A very honest car and as soon as we get some good weather i want to see it absolutely mint LOL

Forgot to mention about the door pin, it did the same to me, it's not easy to get it back in but it is do-able!

Just be careful if you ever need to take the door off, i found they were a bit heavier than i thought when it came to replacing the drivers door loom Thumbs up

Oh and one more thing.......i whinced a bit when i heard it bouncing off the limiter, suppose over time you'll get used to where the limit is but just be nice with her Thumbs up

She did get driven properly under my ownership but the peak power is well before the limiter anyway and i think i only ever hit it twice!

The better driver changes before the limiter Big grin

And your Red 106 looked fantastic!

Don't worry, I never go anywhere near the limiter when driving it and never take it above 3,000rpm until it's completely warm anyway! Smile
I've found the peak power to be around 6,500ish? So yeah, there's no point going beyond that.
The 106 was way too good for me; nothing to mess with or fix! Wink lol

Re the pavement: That's certainly true, but there are so many cars parked around there, it's impossible to leave it on the road without blocking it up. Not ideal.

Yeah that's about right, i always wanted to fit a quickshift on it due to the gearbox being a good one, never got around to it though, if you've got the money then a lightened flywheel makes it rev even free'er too! It has a lighter Crankshaft pulley on it already so could make a nice mod!

Careful going to St Stephens in Hull, you won't get out that car park in one go - thanks to the turning circle, adds to the charm! LOL

Lightened flywheel and short-shift gearbox. Sounds good! B&M or GE for the short-shift? Or is there anything like the Satch-shift for the 106?
Haha, I luckily avoided St.Stephens the other day - stuff paying for parking! (especially now I know you can't get out without ruining your wheels LOL )

There's also a lot of police around the Hull way, i only know from other people who have got done! Still no points!

Watch out for an Octavia VRS in black with black tints, my friend got caught doing 60 over the bridge from that sleeper!

Also Range rover lurks about as well as the volvo's......the road upto Hornsea from Beverley is supposed to be very well policed, probably because it's only a few miles out from the station and they can get a few tickets out before they're fish and chips are ready in Beverley!

Nice looking 6 mate! My door pin fell out too, I found it really easy to get back in, just needed a litle pick tool to pull it out and across enough to get the pin started back in again.

Zed your GTI6 video was the one that made me get a GTI ! The 0-100mph video made me grin like a cheshire cat!

Saw the thread too, yeah i was getting about 32mpg, didn't fly around everywhere in it though, just the odd squirt for shits and giggles. Driving to Hull everyday it's impossible to get on with all the traffic, hence why i probably got better mpg haha!

At least you're enjoying it, oh and the bootlock......it did it for me a few times a bit ago usually when it'd got really dirty, it was behaving when i came to sell it though, bloody Peugeot's LOL glad you got it sorted.
Oh and with the driving position, have you grabbed the lever on the right side of the seat and lowered it to lowest position? Does make a difference but you're right, my P2 was a totally different seat position - i got used to it after a few weeks though and forgot about it LOL

I managed to slot the door pin in once before, bit it just fell out again, so a new one was the only way it was going to get sorted!

I've done about 1000 miles in the past two weeks, travelling to and from Manchester and got 25 &27mpg I think - I obviously didn't let it run out of petrol, but it was more or less empty - so I don't know exactly how accurate that is. It's difficult to gauge how much is left in the tank as the fuel dial is a bit erratic when it gets low! lol
The boot lock was a surprisingly easy fix actually! Just snapped a bit of plastic off because it was catching as the button retracted - all fine now though. Is it a P2 boot lid? I looked underneath the rear badge and there's a section of metal missing, meaning I can't fit a P1 lock/button.

I worked out the seat adjuster, but it's still too high! I'll see whether or not I can live with it, but tbh the seats need replacing anyway, as you know! lol
It's off the road and in the garage until March now anyway - so that'll give me plenty of time to sort out any niggles Smile

Mine manages the 25mpg on a good run,for 27 it needs to be downhill and a good wind behind it.Glad someone bought the car that sounds as if he's going to look after it.

That's weird! Might have to look at getting another lid as I don't want it rotting No It'll be fine for now though

Also, Chris, do you still have the locking wheel nut adaptor thing? I don't think I have it! Can't get the wheels off lol

They're thirsty buggers. I posted this on Cliosport.net and they were all shocked at how a 2.0 can drink so much! But it's not a modern engine, so I didn't exactly expect it to be economical. Besides, that's not why I bought the thing Razz

Oh, it'll get looked after! I'm not one to mistreat cars - Especially my own. Just having some trouble deciding where to go with it ATM. It's a toss up between having a fast-road/track car, or completely returning it to standard due to how rare they're getting now! At the moment, I'm favouring fast-road/track car as it's already got some nice upgrades; suspension, exhaust etc... But we'll see!
I'd love to supercharge it, but I can't bear spending 4 times what the car is worth on just the engine (which is already on 111k, so might not last long!)

Oh Joey........check the rear centre pull out drawer......think it's in there. Sorry forgot to mention about that haha!

And OI trust me, that engine's a belter! LOL Had the cambelt and all ancillaries changed by Carl @ Mechanical Repairs.......you give it regular oil and filter changes and it will do as many miles as you want it to as far as i can see!

It is a fantastic engine and i've never ever ever had a problem with it once regarding tapping, or not starting due to an actual engine fault!

Knocked the engine knock switch once which was fun but that was user error, Miles does have a very high mileage one that just keeps on going, as DM said - who knows....in a few years i might buy it back Laugh

Psjunkie had it, then Pugpete and it really was looked after by him, then i bought it from Pete and it was my pride and joy, now it's your turn......

As a cheap check you could always change the few engine sensors the car has, which would definitely mean that the engine's o2 readings etc were absolutely right and it wasn't overfuelling etc.... worn sensors can make a difference as some other members on here have found.
