This seems to be just like the new Gtech:Clicky I have the old one without the GPS function, but it's still a handy bit of kit! (never tried it on the track tho. - I always forget it at home ) ________________________________________ VTSbest 60' : 2.272 best 1/8 ET : 9.375 @ 74.42mph best 1/4 ET: 14.603 @ 97.047mph Team Trackday™ |

I use a Performance Box quite extensively. It's great, the video function of a Video VBOX is fantastic too, however, I can't justify the extra £1000 for the feature. It is of most value when you actually know how to use it, you need to be a fairly competent driver in the first place, then use it to log different lines, braking points etc. From here you can then use Circuit Tools to figure out your 'delta' and find out through analysis the quickest way around the circuit. Best place for it though is in one car, same day, same circuit with two drivers. One driver WILL be faster than the other, in my case I was the slower driver but in places I was actually faster in some places. Circuit Tools is great for looking at your ideal lap times. Trackdays though are not the best place for trying datalogging. Firstly it's against the rules (TDs are non timed events, if you're timing then there's a chance you are invalidating the TDO insurance) and secondly, it's nigh on impossible to get a clear lap to 'set a time'. I use some software called RaceRender2 to 'burn' the GPS data to the video as seen here: Clicky for Vimeo There are better and more powerful things out there on the market, but they are priced accordingly and are not as simple to use. That's the great thing about Circuit Tools, it's a piece of p!$$ to use! |

Thanks for that response gives me a lot to look at! I realise that trackdays are not the best place to use data logging function due to being held up and of course the delicate issue of data capture possibly breaking the rules. My current thought is to hide it in the glove box and use a remote aerial. Video would be nice so I can see if I was held up or just plain slow, the later being more likely. The RaceRender software looks very interesting and certainly cheap enough, seems to be fairly easy to use too. No doubt I will be back with more questions soon. ________________________________________ Clear tailight lenses sucked yesterday, suck today and will continue to suck with great amounts of suckiness into the sucky-laden future. |
