head gasket, or piston rings? more a blue smoke if its piston rings.

Steam or condensation. Normal on cold days. Otherwise usually head gasket.

Does happen if its a very very cold morning.

Try it during the day when the tempreture is warmer and see what happens.

Burning coolant gives off that sort of smoke. Is the car hard to start? Any water loss? Any water in the oil? Lots of things you can check/keep an eye on which will give a better indication of whats wrong, if anything.

My mum once overfilled the car with oil when I was a kid, filled the whole road with white smoke. Like a smokescreen Laugh my ass off

Piston rings Yes

I've seen this with 2 engines which both needed bottom end rebuilds. I bet at least one of your pistons looks like this when you take the engine apart.

alright greenbelt. did this make your engine knock when this happened to yours.. as this one was knocking bad and was giving alot of thick white smoke out. the heads fine piston looks like yours but damage is a lil worse :s

Yep, there was loads of knocking from the top end and smoke out of the crankcase breathers.
