Hi.

Been looking for info about whether to use the 136 tooth timing belt or the 137 belt. I bought the 137 kit as i was told that was the better kit with the BETTER tensioner. Now, before i go and fit it to the car, can someone please tell me if they know if the plastic tensioner is prone to failure more so than the 136 metal one? Surely the new plastic one was designed to be better than the old one? (i tried searching for this in the forum but couldnt find an answer)

Thanks.

its usually the belt that fails not the tensioners, most people preffer the steel 136 tensioner, the J4R engine only ever used the 136 kit in the 406, same kit used on the later XU7JP4, earleir XU7J4's used plastic tensioner.

Both kits last about the same time ? It all boils down to how you tension the belt once installed? Too loose and it will jump out of time. Too tight and it will squeal and snap Yes

if its any help, ( i could be wrong of course!) but the steel tensioner is bigger in diameter, therefore runs slower, so if

nothing else, spins at lower speed....
