Is the vacuum pump working and plumbed up to the electro valve properly?

There used to be a thread on here with all of the info you needed to make sure it's working as it should but I imagine it's been archived by now but try a quick search anyway. If I get chance over the next few days though I will happily go through it all with you.

OK I think you've got pipes crossed. The pipe from the vacuum pump should go onto the front (yellow)
and the pipe to the solenoids on the manifold goes to the top (red)
Nothing should be connected to the blue.

(I'm doing this from memory mind so I will double check in the morning but I'm pretty sure that's right)

In that case you've either got a faulty valve or the ecu isn't switching it over when it should. check the wiring over, make sure it's not damaged.

Also get a multi meter and check the connector, at idle and then raise the revs slightly and see if it switches on/off

I'm no expert but would say you've got a coil pack playing up, check them to make sure they are all sparking properly. If you find two of them aren't sparking properly then it could be an ignition amp (bolted to the wing just behind the battery). Mine did similar a few years ago and it only really showed once the coil pack died completely.

Sounds good though, what exhaust have you got on it? I miss mine so much, wish I could afford to do the things it needs and get it back on the road.

you rekn its the coil pack.. does it have to run on 3 cylinders? because it sounds like its not running on 3 cylinders ...

umm tbh how do u check if they are sparking properly?

lol i just put a exhuast system that is really quiet .. that noise u can hear is generated from the pod i put on normally you cant even hear the car

Well when one of mine went, it would idle fine and if you didn't ask too much of it would drive ok but as soon as you tried to get any where quickly it would hold back and misfire and not rev very well, which looking at your videos is what yours appears to be doing?

Like I said I'm not an expert so It could be something else but for the time it takes to pop the cover off and check that they are working properly it's worth finding out.

Ah yes mine used to be like that, the pugsport wasn't that loud and you could hear the induction noise really well, that was until I got a group a decat. That really didn't do the pugsport any good as the exhaust noise just drowns every thing out now. That is one of my jobs to sort out the exhaust before it's back on the road.

When you rev the engine a little from idle, how much do the diaphragms move and how quickly?
They should do this:

Sorry about the quality. If they don't move quickly and through the full range then either there is a vacuum leak or one of the diaphragms have split.

Sorry been busy with work the last couple of days.

Ok so your diaphragms are working.

They do have an ICV yes, big silvery canister behind the throttle body bracket that the throttle cable goes through. They are a bit of a pain to change without completely stripping half the throttle body off the car though.

They have a MAP sensor too, this is built into the ecu, there should be a vacuum feed from the inlet manifold round to the metal pipe that sticks out of the ecu, goes through a little white plastic thing attached to the battery box.

They could yes, more so the MAP than the ICV, if thats faulty it normally just causes it to not idle very well.

The MAP sensor being built in to the ecu means it's not replaceable, I want to change mine but i'm not buying a new ecu just to do that. I've even gotten in contact with Bosch who make the sensor and given them the part numbers etc but the person I spoke to wasn't very help full and just said they couldn't find it on the system so can't get one Sad I'm still gonna be working on it though when I have time.

Trouble is you could be spending a fortune on replacing random sensors until we find the one that is causing the problem, have you had it plugged into diagnostics to see if any thing is showing up?

To rule the lambda sensor out, unplug it (down the back of the engine / battery box there should be a big black plug with a red tab, or two smaller plugs with 2 wires in each depending on which ones they used at the time your car was built).

If it drives better with out the lambda sensor it may mean the sensor is dead but it could mean something is causing it to over fuel and the lambda is holding it back. Don't drive it around with out the lambda connected too much though other wise you'll kill the engine eventually

could be cam timing, as there is a double tensioner system you can have it quite a long way out.

GTI6 map is a sensor bolted to the intake, S16 is inside the ecu and connected by a vacuum pipe.

Dan, a lad on 205gtidrivers has replaced his MAP sensor on a Bosch MP3.1 recently, worth asking him more details.
