I have just bought a 1999 GTi 6, the gear lever postion seems to be biased heavily towards the passengers side of the console, so much so that selecting 1st gear is a real stretch and selecting reverse seems to have the shift lever sitting about the middle of the console. I am assuming this is not normal? Does anyone have any suggestions of possible answers and possible fixes for the problem. Apart from this.......a great little car, love it !! Much quicker than my old S16. |

As far as I remember there's no way of adjusting the side-side movement, the GE quickshift lets you adjust front-back though. Do you have unnaturally short arms perhaps? Oh, and welcome ________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |

No, my arms are about the right size for someone that is just on 6ft tall. The first/second plane of the shift is hard against the left side of the console and the fifth/sixth plane is about where I would expect the third /fourth plane to be. It is very strange, I have not seen this before. I did manage to lengthen one of the linkages which has moved the shift away from the console to select first/second, but it is no where near right. Looking for ideas now ??? |

And thanks for the welcome. Have been a Peugeot nut for a long time, as is my father. He has had only Peugeot's since the late 60's early 70's. |

So you're not running standard linkages? I'd start by doing that.________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |

They look like standard linkages. It is only the top short linkage that has a small amount of adjustment. I have just tonight bought a set of linkages from Miles on Ebay, hoping this will go someway to help solve the problem. Apart from that I'm lost as to where to from here. |

Yup, start with a known quantity such as Miles' ones, you might find one of the linkages you have on is simply wrong, and that'll fix it. In what way does it have "adjustment"? Standard ones should have nothing like that. Sounds to me like that one's wrong. If not, then take it from there. No point spending more time on it until you know you're got the right product to start with though. ________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |

some standard linkages do have a certain amount of adjustment, may be something bent if that can't be sorted.________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |
