hi all. ive got a few issues which i hope an expert can clear up. ive read the FAQ about the cambelt change (great post) i got the car as a non runner so i have no way of knowing what the timing was before as the belt snapped

so i timed up the car, runs ok but very flat and struggles to tick over. compression is very good running at 215 215 210 215. its fitted with uprated cams. which i dont have a name for. if i put the 8mm pin in the front of the engine through the crank pully it runs as above, if i follow the post and remove the starter and put a pin in the hole at the back its almost 2 teeth out in comparison to the front pulley marks. and if i time it up on the rear mark with a drill through into the flywheel it bearly runs at all.

i knew the car well as it was a friend of mine and i knew it ticked over fine and pulled well. want to eliminate the timing problem so is there anyway else of doing it with a dti guage or smething?

thanks

john

the bit abou8t removing the starter is wrong, you only do that with the diesel engine.

There is a post on this forum about timing up the bottom end with out the crank pulley on, it shows an image of what to line up, if you can get that off and do that and lock in the top pulleys you should be fine, have you tried cleaning out all sensors etc ? just give them a blow out, im not an expert on engines but know something.

just trying to help
