Hi there guys, seems years since I have used this forum but always been the best source of information and advice!

I have a Peuegot 307 Hdi 1.4 2003 which I use for work. There has been an underlying issue with starting for approximately 2 years.... my sister previously owned the car.

80% of the time in the mornings the car will not start, if you leave for 1 minute the car starts fine but never before this delay of 1 minute. When the car is up to temperature and warm the starting problem goes away. Perhaps if left for an hour after a drive you also get the starting problem.

When having trouble starting 'antipollution fault' is displayed on the dash and the engine management light remains on until the car is turned off.

My sister has had the car into numerous garages including Peugeot who have never been able to diagnose the fault so she has learnt to live with. I know glow plugs were changed and all filters.

Can anyone shed some light on what this could be. I was perhaps thinking of a crankshaft or camshaft sensor or the Cat?! The problem apparently used to only be once or twice a week but now it is doing it daily!!!!

Any help would be most appreciative!

Keith

hmmmmm, possibly a faulty non-return valve on the lift pump giving low pressure initially.

hard to say specifically as they're quite complex unless it was a common symptom, but a decent mechanic should be able to trace it by checking the live readings when its playing up.

I would say an air leak, very common for the air filter box to chaffe the pipes underneath making a small hole to allow air in.

These engines also suffer from the fuel lines, which run on top of the engine, becoming chaffed.

The hole is miniscule, impossible to see and doesn't leak. However what it does do, is put air in the fuel line making a difficult start.

My suggestion would be to manually prime the fuel system if it fails to start, if the primer is soft then you know you've got a hole, if it's stiff then the problem probably lies elsewhere.

I've seen this fault a few times now and have actually replaced 2 sets of pipes myself. It is not a cheap job and can be quite fiddily.

Good luck though.

Common fault is Fuel rail pressure sensor... Or just the wiring that goes down the block to the ecu on the right. A diagnostic will tell you whats goin on.

Is it dpf equipped? Disconnect the dpf pressure sensor and start it..
