After coming out of a company car I have decided to fulfil one of my early teens dream and buy a 306 GTI-6. After experiencing how quick and manageable they are when I was a passenger in a work colleagues standard blaze yellow phase 2 a few years ago I have always wanted one. So after parting with £1500 I now own a phase 3 china blue GTI-6! I'm chuffed with it so far. It pulls in every gear and with it being lowered 40mm and on standard cyclones with proxies it really holds the road well. It has a stainless steel exhaust with de cat and a piper induction kit. Interior is good condition with drivers seat in good nick and the air con works as well as all electrics etc. I'm very happy and although it has done 120k Iv been assured the cam belt has been recently done and it has been owned by enthusiasts in the past. As I come from a technician background I'm going to do the cam belt soon anyways to be sure. It does have a rubbish handbrake so I'm going to do disc and pads all round and hopefully adjust this up. Is this a common fault? Any suggestions for brake upgrades? It also has a very stiff clutch pedal. I'm guessing because it runs by the exhaust manifold. Any ideas for keeping it slick? Or deal with it I guess! Anyway long enough post... Cheers guys. Great site! |

Im 42 now and i got my 1st 6 back in April this year, its been on my list of "cars to own" for a long time now and im very very impressed at its capabilities for a £1500 car.Ive had 2 subarus and 2 sierra cossies and this is just as much fun to be honest.I use it every day for my 10 mile commute to work and enjoy every minute of it.Feels a lot quicker than 170 bhp i think but its the handling that this car is all about.....ive spent loads on suspension goodies and theres not much that will keep up on the twisty bits.As for handbrake they are a joke...i have new pads and new cables and mines still crap!!....stiff clutch cable also a very common fault on the 6....new OEM pug cable helps a lot...if not then its time for a clutch! Sounds like a nice example you have there mate....ENJOY!!!!! |

Iv mainly been a RS man. Various fiesta, escort RS turbos etc but always liked the handling of the two 306 turbo diesels I had apart from the lift oversteer!!! Seem like a good choice to buy a 6. I like the fact there a 'sleeper' in a sense. I'll be commuting 40 miles a day so want a decent b road blaster. Cheap to buy. Surprisingly cheap to insure as well. I'm 24. Had license for 6 years. 4NCD with points and was only £700. |

They are a decent enough car bang for buck and grin factor. The heavy clucth is very common, as stated a new cable does change it alot, made mine so much better. As stated the handbrake really isnt worth it, no sooner do you get it working than it goes weak again. Make sure the belt has been done recently, i believe most have them changed every 40k, as they have a habbit of giving. Basically look after it and it will keep you grinning |

Iv been trying to upload some photos of the car. Wanted your opinion on the car with it's choice of cyclone colour. They look like a dark grey and the inlet manifold has been painted this colour to. Is it a peugeot colour?! Finding difficult though... A) do I have to post a need thread with uploaded pics? How many can I post at a time? When I click it looks like I only have one space to browse and upload. why is the avatar pic such a small size? Iv taken photos with my iPhone and the jpeg file size is massive... How do I make it smaller C) if iv taken photos with my iPhone how do I convert the pics to a smaller file to upload? Sorry I'm a newbie. Never used forums before and not exactly an IT wizard. If anyone could shed some light it would be extremely helpful. Sorry it's a boring, time consuming subject.... |

Ive just changed clutch cable, got it from ECP, makes a big difference.I use Black Diamond pads front a rear which are a good upgrade from standards, about £100 for a full f/r set. No real advntage in changing from std Brembo discs ________________________________________ Spanner Monkeys Monkey SpannerForum Search Clicky |

Avatar updated! What about posting pics now? I'v uploaded to photobucket then saved them to my pictures which has reduced the file size. If I wanted to post a picture in this thread for example how would I go about doing it? I cant right click copy and paste?Cheers for the help people. Thanks monkeyman, sound advice. I might buy the pads and replace the discs for OE as there is slight brake judder. The car is lowered but Im in the process of organising some bilstein b4's for the front and xsara rear shocks for the back. Any good? Found a rolling road as well fairly close by... Thor in Coventry. Quoted £75 for a power run which will then give a idea of what im starting with. Any midlands people used this place? |

Nice one, you wont regret it. I bought mine as a "runabout" and its rapidly become my favourite car (Ive got another 8 of various varieties ) - I replaced all of the suspension with new OE stuff, apart from the rear beam mounts, went with solid mounts for them, bought DS2500 brake pads and its astonishingly good to drive. ________________________________________ Lots of Nissans, two 306 GTI-6's. There are other brake pads available, Mintex and Ferrodo are popular, but more expensive.this page gives the link codes, or you can click on your image in photobucket to enlarge it and then click on the forum/img code on the r/hand side of the screen, and paste into the post. http://80.82.125.196/forumcodes.php ________________________________________ Spanner Monkeys Monkey SpannerForum Search Clicky |
