Having a bit of a weird one and it's doing my balls in. Officially.

Under normal driving the engine runs sweet as a nut, but when setting off from standstill or when revs are below 1250rpm the engine makes no power at all. Time on the RR at SoS showed the power to be 20-30bhp from idle up to 1250rpm and then jumps up to 60bhp which is expected at those kind of revs, the rest of the curve is normal. AFR is fine too. It happens at partial and wide open throttle and is consistent in that the engine has no power up to the same RPM in any gear.

I've now replaced:

ICV
MAP
TPS
Crank sensor
Cam sensor
Lambda

All replaced with OE items. TPS was the last to change but it's made no difference so i've diagnosed the old TPS to be fine after all. My thoughts were a dodgy reading when the throttle was only slightly open or something but nooo. The only thing left I can think is faulty wiring?

Any other suggestions?

Would you describe it as kinda like its not getting enough fuel, or air and is generally sluggish low down?

If so, those where the problems I was having and it was down to coolant temp sensor Smile

If youve replaced loads of bits I'd check the wiring out

Speedo's knackered, something in the wiring as the gauge doesn't work but the odometer still ticks up the miles, so I know the actual sensor is fine.

Chris the CTS was replaced about 6 months ago with a genuine one too when I was having lambda problems and spluttering.

Ive checked a RR printout for mine, I make 20Hp @1250, 30@1500, 50@2000 and 60@2500. Did this start after you changed the valve timings? Do you have a large bore exhaust or decat? You've covered all my other ideas.

This started after I switched back from the R1 throttle bodies to the standard manifold, hence me thinking there's a dodgy wire somewhere. Not had chance to get the multimeter out though.

This is my graph:

You can see where everything kicks into life about 1250rpm, there's a definite jolt when it decides it wants to behave normally and it always happens at the same RPM

Just had a message, think I know the problem now. My VSS has a broken cog which means it doesn't turn off the final drive. Apparently the ECU doesn't see that the car's moving then and doesn't fuel accordingly, then all of a sudden sees other sensors loading up and runs in a default mode.

Makes sense, will get hold of a new 'un and see what happens. Nothing else seemed to have worked.

I know, thought i'd replied to that but forgot to mention the cog sat on my mantlepiece here Laugh

Aside from the stutter, will the engine run ok otherwise?

If the engine speed is higher when you change gear, you will come into the next gear at higher revs and more power available.
