Alright fellas, im going to attempt this in a minute, is it easy to do or cock up? bloke at the garage said be carefull you'll bugger up the brakes?

easy enough mate, tighten the 13mm under the center console till u have about 3 clicks on the hand brake, also after you've adjusted it make sure u can then spin the rear wheels freely (handbrake off), if they're tight u'll have to loosen the cable a bit.

When i do this on my car one side locks up way before the other?

Probably a buggered handbrake cable and MOT failure then Yes

Disconect the cables and make sure they move freely, if they do Try winding back both pistons, give the sliders a good grease and then pump the brake pedal up before adjusting the cable that should reset the calipers and hopefully sort your problem. They are a pain to get right and wat makes it worse is the handbrake is pretty poor design to start with.
