Hi Guys, we've recently bought a gti-6 track car and in the listing it mentions that it has kent cams re profiled to PT80 spec. However the car still has the standard management and there is a little mis fire about 6000rpm. Could this be due to the standard management.

We will check other avenues but this is the first thing that springs to mind.

Any help appreciated.

Regards, Lee

Was the ECU re-mapped after they were fitted?

PT80s aren't far off standard spec anyway, although have more lift which makes them very close to touching the pistons.

Presumably the plugs aren't telling you anything?

No the previous owner advised that it hadn't been remapped. Its on our list of things to do however Smile

We will be looking at that avenue tomorrow.

We had a quick blast tonight and it didn't seem to mis fire. the only thing that was different is that we used 95 ron and it was about 16-18 degrees. The first time we drove it we used super unleaded and it was about 25 degrees.

Would the temp drop and different fuel make a difference?

Its on a standard map also.

I'd look at getting it remapped if air temperature and fuel type are changing the way the engine works like that. Presumably you aren't having any issues on part-throttle when the management uses the lambda. It is a bit strange that its doing it on SUL though as generally you'd think it would work whatever. They run a 'fixed' map at WOT I think. Might be worth PM'ing Rich W about it as he'll know more about that side of things.

So check your plugs, the cam positions (advance/retard) and try to find a way to look at the AFRs, either in car on the road, or on a rolling road. Or look at getting it mapped by Wayne Schofield (chipwizards).

Thinking about it was part throttle and when i noticed the mis fire before it was full throttle and i mean pedal to the metal.

I think well change the plugs and get it mapped asap.

Other than that the engine seems to run fine.
