I'd say 220 new valves sounds excessive, I'd stick to 16.

Just buy a complete non-tapping head from someone like Carl and stick it on.

Fair play for that mate, I know what you mean. If screwing up an engine means you will never make the same mistake again then it's not been entirely in vain.

I've screwed up and broken more parts than I'd care to imagine, but that's how you learn.

yeah thats why i just laughed at the end of the day i know i wont do that again and i know its costing me money constantly but what doesn't now days. iv been trying to get an apprenticeship as a mechanic but no one wants me so this is my way of learning and gaining some experience that may help me into this. as soon as i have some decent money i want a good quality 6 but for now this is a good starting point

thanks for making me feel a bit more positive about it lol

And even completely screwing up an entire engine still won't cost you as much as a set of new brakes for a Focus.

I wouldn't necessarily put this little episode on your CV when applying for apprenticeships though Wink

haha no neither would i but the experience side of fitting and rebuilding and what not might help lol. as for the focus i know what you mean my dads tdi 11 plate focus just had to have new fuel pump as it faild and well sandicliffe decided we were paying for it cost a bloody fortune lol. al though my car hasnt just had the engine done full suspension brakes electrics interior body kit 4 new tyres which cost me 200 for the set stupid 205 40 17s lol all bushes drive shafts gearbox battery lol its had a lot done and for me to screw up here was a kick in the nads but like u said its a learning curve ill crack it sooner or later. as for the engine i meant to ask can i only fit a phase 1 back in or will the ph 2 and 3 engine fit the mounts without modification

Honestly don't know, although I'm pretty sure engines from all phases of gti-6 are the same.
