Did a search but didn't find anything.

How likely is it to get the rear window out of the hatch without breaking it? I am prepared to pay a professional to do it if necessary. If it did break, is a new one hugely expensive?

Just costing options for some painting I will get done before the end of the year.

Not a chance doing it yourself, I tried and ended up with a big pile of broken glass.

Professional might be able to, but personally I'd just get a new one put back in for what it's worth.

Yes I see - paying someone to get it out might be more expensive if he fails than just getting another one regardless and accepting it is going to break.

Thanks.

I'll price a new one up when I come to do the painting.

There's not necessarily any point to remove it in order to respray, as long as you masked it up okay.

That was the original plan, to mask off the glass to correct a badly matched and ineptly-filled blow-in that looks like a dealer cheapo job - but then I saw a 2 little bits of paint bubbling coming out from under the glass. Years of all that salt being sucked up off the road I suppose. So to sort it properly the glass needs to come out.

Ah fair enough. In which case if it were me, I'd find a price for a new one, smash the old one out so I could prepare it properly myself.

I'm sure the money you'd save prepping it yourself would pay for the new glass Yes

CUJ got his out with a hammer, I don't think he put the same one back in though.

IIRC the advice was it might well be possible to get it out in one piece but in doing so there is a chance that the heater element connection tabs will be damaged so no guarantees. Mine is the more difficult P3 bonded type though. I haven't actually had mine done yet, even though that was the plan 2 years ago, as a bunch of other stuff got in first but now close to the top of the list.

might be just as easy to swap the whole rear boot door than swapping the glass, just a few hinge bolts teh loom the shocks then swap your lock barrels over and your away.
