Hi all

I know this has been been posted many times but my problem is very specific.
Once the car gets above 90 on the temp gauge, as i come up to a junction or change down, depress the clutch pedal, the revs fall to about 400/500 rpm and the car either struggles to get back up to the normal 800 rpm hot idle or just cuts out. The car starts fine again and repeats the above time and time again. parking the car when hot is almost impossible.
If i leave it to cool it's fine again until hot then repeat above.
The car performs faultlessly in every other respect.
Just fitted a brand new marelli stepper icv and no change.
I am keen not to have to go through changing sensor after sensor etc so wonder if anyone else has had the same SPECIFIC problem as i have and has managed to cure it by changing or fixing what ?

cheers all

Did you reset the ecu when you fitted the new ICV. It'll keep messing up until you do.

Look under the FAQ section for how to reset ECU

Ok believe ya Razz

ECU temp sensor is the next port of call really, it's the green sensor out of the three on the thermostat housing

Take it out and give it a clean, see if that makes any difference. Might be caked in shite, mine was. I sourced a new one in the end as I didn't like the look of it.
Again will require a ecu reset

^ I've solved a problem with ICV on mine before by reseting. Hovis has aswell.
Didn't know about that for setting the ICV. You learn something new everyday Big grin

p*ss out Smile

Don't forget to bleed it.

You'll need a coke bottle with a bit of electrical tape or similar around the top. Press this on to the expansion tank opening. (best with 2 people) open up the bleed screws on the thermostat housing and matrix hose. (may of missed one)

Squeeze bottle to push the water into the system wait for coolant to come out of bleed screws then nip them up.

Theres also a bleed screw on top of the rad. To minimise fluid loss just put your thumb over the hole when you take the temp sensor out and put the new one back in quickly.

You won't lose much fluid if you are quick.

Mine does this, and I suspect it's an earth that comes loose when the under bonnet temps are high.

Everything else is fine as shown by diagnostics.
