i have a phase 1 gti-6 that iam getting parts to low boost charge it. iam looking at getting the decomp plate from dp enginering. my aim is to get the car to around the 300bhp mark. i have rebuilt the bottom end with new piston and rods all standrd but brand new. I have also used ARP bolts and acl bearings. can anyone shed any light on the decomp plate as to if that would work? Thanks kenny

if youre going low boost just leave it at the standard compression ratio, will be more drivable (low boost cars actually have more torque low down than high boost)

go high boost then....

low boost should be quicker if its running right unless your mate has a larger capacity engine with more torque...

low boost are around 240bhp so id imagine if the other is running 238 it wont be far off.
Im running a decompression plate in mine and it seems ok so far. Im running 15psi at the moment, but ive had 21 through it and ran fine.
The advantage of a decomp plate is that if it ever does go, usually the plate is the first part to break, so instead of knackering the whole engine, you can just replace the plate. Try ferriday engineering, did mine for £160 posted with the non setting sealant that you have to use.

A de-compression plate will work fine, and you should be able to run the 300 BHP you want reliably.

I wouldn't drop the compression too much though - I would go for aroun 9.5:1.

You will need a custom re-map rather than using our generic software, due to having a bespoke set-up too.
