So, I parked my car nose out and as a result when I'm washing up I'm looking at my 306 from behind the wheels seem to be pointing like this /---\ ... bugger.

I tried telling myself it isn't shagged.
I tried telling myself that I'm imagining it
I tried telling myself that I checked the beam when I bought it (I didn't really, I had a quick look and was so desparate to buy I wasn't really looking Whistle )

Plus there's a knocking from the left side occasionally.

Diagnosis is definately that the beam is shagged.

Since I presume that it's expensive to fix I'm not going to be able to for some time - especially with the 1st child on the way.

So the 2 questions I need answering are:

1.Is it still safe to use the car?
2.How much is it going to hurt my wallet?

Thanks.

Mine was like that for a while and drove fine, apart from the creaking noises.

Costs depend I suppose, I picked up a rebuilt rear beam plus dampers for around £200 and it's straight forward to change.

It shouldnt be too expensive if you pick up an ok condition second hand beam, they seem to go for around £60 upwards depending on whats left on it.

I think a few people refurb them for circa £300 but i could be a bit out.

If you wanted to save money and source a beam but can't/don't want to fit it yourself i could give you a hand one weekend. (They are heavy buggers to move around on your own when laid under the car LOL)

when you are layed under the car with the beam in place, dont get your wife/g freind to put the bolts in as theyre useless with that type of thing and take ages.

I did mine all on my own, it was a flipping nightmare trying to lift the beam with my legs whilst using my hands to try and line up the holes for the bolts and get them in. I must have looked a right spacker doing mine LOL

Cheers mate, I might have to go down 2nd hand route then.

is the car still safe? even with it being about £100 there may be a bit of a wait before I get it done.

im sat here thinking how the f*ck did you manage that, without like an 8 foot long arm, then i realised i had the beam mounts fitted to the beam when refitting, you must of had the beam mounts on the car allrerady

Yeah, i stuck the mounts into the car with the nuts on a couple of turns then put the beam on a couple of axle stands and used a couple of jacks to try and help lift certain areas strategically.
Was a major ball ache to do though LOL

Is it still safe to use or do I need to park it until I get it fixed?

Doesn't seem to have dropped ride height.

I'm trying to get a second hand beam as a stop gap and then I'll refurb my old one over time. Eventually when I freshen up all suspension components (as is the long term plan) I'll have a mint beam too.

Dont panic. Nothings going to drop off, if i were you i'd get a decent 2nd hand beam, refurb it yourself, then swap over at your leisure. Theres enough guidance on here to do the rebuild yourself, no specialist tools needed (unless you need to press the arm shafts out).

tip for removing/refitting.

leave the wheels on and then just use a jack in the middle to pivot it into place. no lifing required Smile

Exactly what I'm doing on my HDI DTurbo, got the second hand axle now just scouring round for the best price OEM bearings and seals.
