car's not idling. revs up then just dies. sounds like its struggling to keep up. have to use the accelerator to keep it up and even then it sounds lumpy. had the stepper out and checked the resistances. all within right measurements. changed the inlet manifold gasket and i'm pretty sure there's no leaks. reset the ecu but still the problem's there.

only other thing i can think of is the map sensor. anyone had similar symptoms that turned out to be the map sensor?

problem's driving me nuts Sad

Sounds like an air leak. How far does it rev up?

only revs with the accelerator pressed down. minute you let go it just drops and dies.

Same symptoms that I had when my map died,Started when my battery died with a bit of jerking(hesitation) whilst driving and gradually got worse to the point that you are on about. If it's for your phase1 and decide you are going to change it have a look here Clicky make sure you check the part number as I'm going off my car.

cheers for that. already sourced a few possible place for parts. i'll keep that in mind tho.

to think this all started with a simple starter changeover. like chucking a snowball and causing an avalanche

It's very simple to get it out - just 1 10mm bolt..
clean it good with WD40, leave a thin film of WD on the seal.
Also, check that the clamp on the big air intake hose is not loose - I've had it with similar symptoms.

already had it off. gonna change the map and stepper. if that doesnt work i'll take the intake manifold off, check for cracks. definitely an air problem. whether its mechanical or electrical i'll soon find out
