see as it a bad and expensive idea to chip my ecu
i want to run gti mangement which involves a cam sensor which a 1.8 doesnt have
so the next step is to replace the head i know a few people have done it on here but there isnt much info
i guess i will have to use:
gti loom + ecu
1.8 head gasket set
1.8 belt kit
i already have the cams and manifolds fitted to the 1.8

and before anybody tells me to put a 6 lump in i cant
any info would be a grate help and if anybody wants to sell me parts related to this please pm me

Drill the hole for the sensor, I'm sure the 1.8 heads have the casting for this, Nice and easy then

yup the casting is there, needs a large hole plus a smaller threaded one for the securing bolt.

doubt its worth it though, more cost effective to pick up an used aftermarket ecu as most of the basic ones will run all the xu7 components just fine, may need different injectors - dont know what they flow as std but rfs ones will flow plenty

Sounds an awful lot like you should just swap to a GTI-6 engine... Yes

OR

Get a 6.

the thing is i like to be different most people either buy a 6 or get a engine
not many people tune the 1.8 and iv heard there can big gains from theses engines. Also alloy block lighter and they love to rev. Dosent so much need as much power as a 6 to keep up. Even thou mine is a heavy 5 door but ha ho i love it Razz

I can completely understand that, and it's always good to have people willing to try something a bit different.

Just be careful of what you're spending and know when to cut your losses, I've seen several people go out on a mission to try something clever, only to end up thousands of pounds poorer and with a car that still isn't as quick as id they'd just bought the model up.
