I went to put the window down on my 306, but half way through the glass moved forwards (towards the side mirror) and the edge came away from the door frame. Its now very loose, still goes up and down but I have to hold it while doing so.

Any ideas what it cane be? Maybe fallen off a runner? It was shaking a bit previously before the glass came loose. Also notice that theres a hole in the glass edge that is usually behind the rubber, was there a pin in there that held it?

towards the back of the door should be a little hole in the glass with a iirc grey 90 degree plastic clip which runs in the window rubber

I have seen the little hole, but no plastic clip in it.

Might of come off behind the rubber, does it just slot back in.

If its not there it will probably be behind the rubber. Take heed as although the clip has probably snapped or loosened, what causes it (in many cases at least) is the actual rubber door seal its self. It has a felt layer on the inside which once worn down exposes the rougher surface underneath which has more grip, hence causing the clip to be held in place. Have a look inside the seal, if its damaged get a new one before you end up snapping your green regulator clip and causing the glass to crash to the floor. Costs sod all to have a look about your local scrappy Thumbs up

My passenger window dropped to the bottom of the door about 2 hours ago. Pulled off the door card and the rubber bung that goes through the glass is half broken and popped off the green regulator, stuck it all back together for now, can you get that little rubber gromit from peugeot?

The grey window clip is part number 9227 23.
The rubber bung (incl spring clip) is part number 9227 39.

Both available from Pug stealers...
