i have a hesitation on my s16 between 2700-4000RPM i noticed a vac pipe leak fixed that but still no better,
then i noticed that the 4butterflies controlled by the diaframs on the inlet manifold are only half opening when reved, when they used to open all the way,
does anyone know what the problem is =/

Ok and you say it hesitates. Do you have full power after the hesitation stage that you have stated? The first thing I would check is the plugs. Are they in good condition? Free from burning or any oil deposits.

I would them check the map sensor and tps etc. Check the sensors with the engine running and if no change then the sensors are fine. If you unplug the map sensor it should cough and splutter along with a hestitation and then full power.

Maybe check the throttle body is wide open when the pedal is pushed to the floor.

yeah after 4000rpm it pulls hard how it should,
the plugs are only about month old (bosch super4)
the sensor in the throttle bodie is that the map sensor?
where abouts is the tps?

MAP is in the ECU, you cant unplug it per se but you can pull the pipe off LOL

Aye what pipe did you pull off? The sensor at the back of the throttle body is the air inlet temperature sensor. There's a sensor on top of the inlet manifold near the throttle body end.that's the MAP sensor (manifold absolute pressure). Unplug that and wait about half a minute it will the begin to rough idle and should then stall. If there is no change then
that's the sensor at fault.

Matt the S16 is a different set up to the GTi even though they do share some sensors (the MAP is not one of them, it's built into the ecu on the S16)

The diaphragms not opening properly will more than likely be a vacuum problem if they are both doing it.

Have you replaced the vacuum piping? as the original pipes will be hard and perished by now which will cause leaks even if they look ok.

It may be that one of the diaphragms has a split in it but they normally fail completely if it does. Other than a leak it could be the vacuum pump not working properly or a leak in any of the vacuum pipes (are your brakes working as they normally do or do they need more pressure on the pedal?).

ive got silcon vac hose from the diaframs to the ecu,
yeah both diaframs are only half opening, when looking at them it looks like they hesitate when opening,
i have recently noticed like a high pitched noise sounds like air leaking but when i push the pedal it goes,
someone told me to spray brake/clutch cleaner over all vac pipes n it'll rev if theres a leak there, is this true n be worth doin?
Cheers guys

not sure if it's related but check the big vac pipe at the back of the head aswell. i seem to remember hearing a hissing noise from mine and it was leaking there. i run a full gti6 setup now so can't check it though

that's not right!

they should be connected to a solenoid valve on the end of the head.

MAP sensor in the ecu is meant to be connected to a port on the front of the manifold.
