I have searched for other problems like this but what is the easiest way to open the bonnet apart from using the usual handle as the cable has somehow detached...? Sad

cheers

Stick your hand up from underneath car in-between radiator and bumper and pull what the wire would be attached to

Smash the grille up and undo the two bolts holding the catch on Dunno

not sure if its possible on a Rallye, but on the early TD's you can reach up through the engine bay to behind/above the r/h headlamp and tug on the wire where it has a Joiner.

Could always remove the bumper and fish about under the grille, or break the grille.

Sounds to me like the the clip that holds it into the slam panel has broke hence why it's slack. The actual cable should still be in the mechanism.

Cable tie the clip into position and job done. As for getting at the cable I detached mine from the leaver inside and pulled it hard Wink then it released.

the release under the steering wheel was opened fully with no give whatsoever, i stuck it down to 'my' mechanic who has just managed to get it opened this morning without taking off or breaking anything thankfully. I will speak to him later to find out how he managed it.
But thankfully after that is fixed the rallye is now nearly fixed after her little missanter in a steel road barrier (6 months ago) Blush Big grin
