they aren't far off an M3 anyway in the real world. i had a blast with a 335d and it was close and we were both going for it. i didn't 'lose' though LOL he looked quite old and asif he would have a heart attack if he pushed it any more. and i just always look like a drug dealer in a hoody :|

A good remap outfit like e-maps will advise you accordingly, I've not heard of any reliability issues and the performance increase is well worth the few hundred squids!! Apparently DPF's can need replacing sooner but it's relatively minor in the scheme of things. Mine is said to achieve a sub 5 second 0-60 and 175mph which I can confirm is doable! 40 - 80 mph is like 4 seconds! See mine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Psu0ZXbSXuY&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Pretty impressive really!

would you reccomend getting mine remapped at 94k mileage or is that a bad plan? Im hoping the car to last me atleast another 3-5 years!

Also, just curious why the change from 306 to 335d, quite a big difference!

ive had the 330d and the 335d ... both mapped at nv.. the difference is amazing..

the only i dislike about the e46 is the steering feel. but top buy and top car!

you wanna see our stage 2 dpf delete for the 330d Big grin

Yeah pretty surprised i got it for 3k... most others for that price seemed terrible, turned out he reduced it from 4.5k to 3 eventually after being messed around loads and being based up in the scottish highlands somewhere, drove from Newbury to Fife to pick it up haha.

I am curious for remap however, at 94k im not sure if its a great idea and would want a custom remap than just a generic map put on.

Although it does have a bit of rush on one wheel arch and the underside of the wheel arch.. wonder how much that will cost to get sorted.

Also, are these rear spoilers standard on these cars... i know its an SE with the M-tech package but havent personally seen many with the rear spoilers.

I think the remap would be fine, even at 94k, remember these cars could be released from BMW with far more power but it's all done for marketing! How many M3's would get sold if their 335d gave the same performance for £12k or so less? I know the 335d isn't quite the same in terms of dynamics but on the road there would be so little in it, a track would be the only place of noticeable difference. Same goes for the other diesel models, can't have them upstaging the petrols too much.

TBH I wish I'd kept the SC 306 just for scuffing about in as it was really good quick fun but I do so little miles I bought the 335d because it was faster, more refined, accommodate the family if needed and newer from a safety and visual perspective. Normally I sink my money into property but caved and bought the BMW to have something newer fir a change! Would definitely recommend one, very nice to drive, silently quick without all the noise, you pull past people and sound like you are barely trying! They do still hold their money well though so still not that cheap, mine was £45,000 new!

180 hp from a 3 litre puts me off these. The newer 2 litre diesel puts out more power. Must be one lazy engine.

I have a 330d tourer msport, but it's an auto and it does my head in, and it's crap on juice.

A friend of mine has the e90 330d with dpf removal, exhaust and a remap, oh it shifts pretty well for a diesel.

For info mines the 184BHP manual box, engine sound healthy and its at around 94k mileage... do hear these cars will go a fair bit longer than that tho.

They indeed do. Local guys import loads of E46 320d and 330d, and they usuall at around the 400.000km mark when they get into the country - and they always sell them with around 150-200k in the clocks Whistle

If they receive the oil change they need they can go virtually forever. Naturally there are a few weak points, like the flaps and the crank pulley, but to be honest I've never heared about gearbox failures of manuals, ZF boxes are quite tough! Auto boxes on the other hand can be troublesome.

Nice car mate! Do love BMW's, always wanted one since I was a kid, just havent got round to it, and can't bring myself to swap my awesome 6 in.

Seems we all seem to own Bmw's as daily cars LOL .

I'll have to look at getting another 6' when i eventually finish uni.

Has anyone had any luck with making the thing sound any better. Don't get me wrong I love the silence sometimes... but other times I just want some noise and drama! Maybe Decat, sports exhaust, air filter and re-map?

My old Seat ibiza cupra TDI definately sounded much throatier, not sure what these cars would sound like. Dont want it sounding like a powerful tractor Whistle

I think if you go on some of the BMW forums there are guys that ar running decats, filtration and remaps with bigger/better cooling. To be honest, I think you're asking for trouble as the limits are probably close in terms of reliability etc. I just enjoy the pace, poise and economy of the remapped car. Overall driving is 38MPG and I can get high 40's if I drive it like a pussy on a long run Smile

6 cylinder diesels (and higher) can sound great with the right kind of exhaust, I believe eisenmann do one for the 330d. Just listen to an Audi a4 2.5TDI with a different box! Wow.

Imo 4 cylinder diesels sound s**t, no changing that. Sure you can make them loud, but its just a noise and sounds like the engine is going to blow.. imagine an overloaded transit going uphill No

I have an auto 330d aswell an I felt the same, really didn't like the auto, always had it in manual shift. Strange thing is since I've put it up for sale I've been enjoying the auto more
Still time to move on.
Been an enjoyable car though.
