Hiya guys, went to manchester for the weekend the other week, on the way home my exhaust braket snaped,and blocked my gear linkages about half mile from home, pushed it off the slip road with g/f stearing, and my battery was fine half way along it cut out and wouldnt start in the end got towd home, with linkages blocked so i thought that my exhaust had fallen onto somthing(engine earth ect)so took exhaust off and same problem no luck even with putting the leads on the batt, yesterday i put a batt of a deisel van on turned the ignition and all light come on dash nice and bright, so i went to crank the engine n all power went lights off dash and couldnt get them back on?or no power to engine or dash, but battery off the van is fine.

any help or suggestions?

Similar symptoms happened when the main earthing point on the gearbox was a little corroded.

I'd first take that off and clean it up.

Yeah sounds like earth to me too! Try it with a boost pack on.

The electrics on mine cut as soon as I triggered the starter so I tested mine by putting a jump lead between the battery negative and a good solid place on the gearbox and it fired straight up so I new it had to be the earth.
