As some know I used to have a GTi6, infact I had this GTi-6.

A PH2. It was lowered 30mm had a brand new splitter and rallye fogs, de-wipered rear, PH3 lights, Spoox carbon Mirror caps, Gloss black cyclones, Goodyear Eagle F1s, a custom 3" rolled out exhaust, an OMP 330 mm steering wheel and was polished within an inch of its life.

I loved that car, but the love affair had to come to an end and I had to let it go.

As soon as I sold it I regretted it and I've been hanging around this forum for no good reason ever since (its certainly not for the company, most people on here are prize c*nts LOL )

Anyway, Me and the Mrs lived together, got married and I've put a baby in her belly Whistle we were down to just one car (a Passat estate for the dog, baby and wife) and decided we needed another car to get around.

Obviously, the sensible thing to do wwould be to get her 1.2 clio fixed. But, that wouldn't be fun now would it?

So, I sold her clio plus a few other bits and then took a bit too much money from my wages and treated myself to this:

V plate Diablo.
12 months MOT, 6 months tax, fresh cambelt, PH1 seats and some yellow bits ... erm yeah, about that ... yellow calipers, yellow tow eye and yellow fans, secretly I like it, but if anyone asks I'll blame the previous owner - incidentally they were both on here.

It needs a little bit of work. The exhaust is knocking so needs re-hanging, It needs tyres but I wanted to change to Goodyear Eagle F1s anyway, there's a wobble under braking. The cyclones need a refurb and there's some laquer peel on the front bumper, a tiny bit on the bonnet and the same again on one of the rubstrips and mirror cap.

There's always a plan with these things isn't there so here's mine ...

I fancy trying my hand at track days - cadwell isn't far. Elivington is about an hour away and Blyton drivers park has opened about 10mins from my house, so it would be rude not to. But, it will still be my main transport too and from work and will also need to be a fast road toy. So I'm thinking a few track/fast road upgrades will be in order. But I'm not sure what yet. Oh and I want to tart it up - those carbon wrapped parts in the for sale section look pretty good and will solve most of the laquer peel affected areas, I want a splitter (there isn't one on at all at the minute) and rallye blanks are always a winner. Plus I have a thing for dark wheels so might put some of them on.

Updates will be slow because of the forthcoming child but hopefully I'll have some cash left for some upgrades for this baby. But, finally, I'm back beheind the wheel of a GTi6 and it feels pretty good.

LOL

Me neither TBH but I haven't even had chance to clean it yet, when I do I'll probably take the badge off, I might take the rear wiper off too ... I know, it's a bit chav but it does look good de-wipered.

But I'm pretty busy over the next couple of weeks so it will have to wait.

Someone on another forum asked me about plans ...

The immediate plans are to get used to being back in a '6 then next week I have some time off and I'll give it a proper clean, try and remove the bluetooth kit on the rear window as well as the rear wiper (chav mod but I like it) and the GTi6 badge.

Next payday I'll buy 2 new tyres and the wheelbearing.

Then I'll just tidy it up.

Exterior:
I hope to find another Diablo bumper without laquer peel then it will be splitter/rallye blanks, carbon or carbon wrapped fuel caps, mirror caps and either carbon or standard rubstrips (one has a bit of laquer peel), new spoiler (the one on has seen better days - again possibly carbon/carbon wrapped) proper OE GTi 6 badges, but I've not decided if they'll go on the doors or one at the back ... and lots and lots and lots of polish!

Interior:
OMP 330mm steering wheel, stealth shelf (are these even still available??) new gear knob to replace the cracked one in there

Wheels/tyres:
Tyres will be replaced with either Toyos or Goodyear eagle F1s. Refurb the cyclones, I'm not sure if I should go black or silver though.

Brakes:
Front brakes will be replaced, there's grooved discs on ATM and I don't see the point, to be replaced with standard, Ferodo DS2500 pads and quality fluid.

Engine/mechanical:
Although the cone filter thats on sounds good I want to replace it with either a KnN or a standard intake, I think its just suciking in warm air anyway, the backbox needs re-hanging as its knocking, but longer term I want a magnex or I might get a system built by ascar at sheffield.

I also want to get on track so I think once/if I do I'll probably start looking at the Bilstein suspension, an upper and lower strut brace, a spare set of ccyclones with R888's or similar, wieght saving by semi stripping and buckets and harnesses.

Then dream world, roll cage, 4 pot brakes and a supercharger lol

... This has potential to get very epenisive, very quickly!

Not an update - we're still too far away from payday for me to spend any money on the car.

But, I had my first 'proper' drive of my new GTi. I'm pleased I did, I was starting to think I'd made the wrong decision. After driving my passat estate for so long the 306 felt small, cramped dated, rattly and decidedly flimsy!! Add to that the stiff clutch, heavier steering and laughable fuel costs and I was honestly thinking about moving it on before I'd even owned it a month.

But, on Tuesday some of my mates with a penchant for wearing leather, having something thobbing between their legs and spending their time meeting other men and drinking orange juice booked onto a bike trackday at Cadwell (yeah, they're bikers, what did you think I meant??) and I thought I'd pop up and watch.

To get from Cadwell from mine involves an hours ad 15 monute journey on flowing A and B roads. Shortly into this journey I remembered exactly why I pined for another GTi6 for so long and why I bought this one.

On these roads they are just so much fun, enough power to have a decent pace but not so much that it overwhelmes the chassis or gets you into (too much) trouble. Add to that the chassis which is full of feedback, sharp steering, well matched brakes and a brilliant gearbox and I got to Cadwell with a big grin on my face.

What ws obvious though is that I need some decent tyres, and the wheelbearing sorting ... oh aaaaand a standard induction set up (maybe with a KnN) ... and a sports exhaust aaaand ... oh god, its happening again isn't it?

24/06/2011 Update, new exhaust

As siad earlier, the exhaust on the car needed re-hanging and I do like a sports exhaust both for looks and sound.

So, with that in mind I popped along to ExhaustUK.com in sheffield. They have done exhausts on 3 of my cars now, this diablo, my old blaze and my old 106xsi and I trust them and their work. I could have gone for one of the magnex's currently for sale on here but I thought I may as well bite the bullet and just go for a new one.

ExhaustUK are specialist in exhausts (as the name suggests) and come with good recomendations, they did the exhausts for pimp my ride Uk and most of the max power staff cars. But they do non chav work too and did some work for the Drason Bywell Aston GT team - if its good enough for an Aston Race car its good enough for my old, rattly, french hot hatch!

I decided to go for the same as I originally had on my old blaze, a 3" rolled out back box.

It sounds how I wanted it, it is aa lot louder than standard but isn't so loud that you can't live with it. Its a little uncomfortable on the motorway but as this car will barely see motorway travel its not really an issue for me. Getting some nice burble on the over run too.

Next step is to sort the tyres but as with everything things aren't so easy as they seem.

I could just put some new rubber on the wheels that are on but they're scuffed, curbed and bubbling so I could refurb them.

But then what colour would I go for?
Silver?
Black?
Anthracite?

If I'm paying for a refurb and tyres at the same time should I just get some new wheels?

I could go for some 16s meaning when I have the money I could go for brembos.

If I go for 16s which ones?

Turinis?
OZ superT's?

and what colour?
and do I want to spend almost the same on wheels/tyres as I spent buying the car?

So many choices!!!

***edit*** sorry for the standard of pics, they're from my phone, I hear that there's a premium on hi-res pics of diaablo's I don't want anyone stealing them.

So I backed the car into the parking space last night so when I was washing up I was looking at the back of the car.

I was greeted by this:

Now, I'm positive that my car isn't a touring car and it shouldn't be running lairy camber. Looks like the beam is f*cked and while it isn't exactly a shock it's still f*cking annoying.

One more thing for the 'to do' list.

Sometimes I wonder why I bother with these rattly, french money pits.
