My 6 had already been superchiped when I bought it. I drove it hard on Scotland’s superb roads for almost a year before melting a piston… I decided to have the engine re-built and I asked about upping the power a bit…

It’s now been rebuilt: block face and head skimmed, re-bored, crank balanced, new oil pump and oil cooler, stronger lead/copper bearings, steel rods, Wossner high compression pistons.

I’m about to fire the engine back in this week, but I need a bit of advice on ECU’s and mapping. Now that I’m running higher compression will I be OK to run with my ECU the way it is, or will I experience problems? Should I be looking at a remap, and does that mean buying a mapable ECU, or will I be able to have my ecu re-mapped?

If it’s not going to do any harm, I’d like to get it running with my own ecu with the superchip, but I need to know if this is a bad idea. Ideally I could do without spending any more money just now, but I’d like to hear from some of you guys on here about the best way forward. I obviously want to get the best out of the engine, but with the emphasis being on a safe set up that’s going to last. I’d love a set of throttle bodies in the not too distant future, but for now I just need to get it reliable and enjoy what I hope will be a noticeable difference with the higher compression...

Cheers!

Dependant on how high comression...

You'll see more gains dialling in some high lift cams the get the ecu remapped live. The man who does all my 1ap cars is wayne schofield at chipwizards.

Only when you go ITB route should you consider a standalone ecu. The marelli 1ap has broad tables to work on. Far more advance than your megasquirt etc..

sounds like a good base for some mild cams, you need to check the specs of the pistons and see what you can get away with, space at TDC as well as what you can run on standard springs.

Nice One Lads, The rebuild was done by AGRA in Dundee; the head had been skimmed previously, so with them doing it again and the block face too, they had to machine the pistons a bit. I'm not sure if this was for clearance or to bring the compression down a bit to make it safe. I'll ask the question today.

Hopefully I'll be able to run it with the ecu the way it is, then I think you're right, once I get some cash together, a set of mild cams next... I'll update when they get back to me today... Cheers!
