Hi everyone,

I am looking at buying another gti-6 as I have missed my old one but need to know a little bit more about the whole cam belt situation.

I am looking at a gti 6 that will need a cam belt done in 10k and want to know what it involves and how much roughly it will cost?

I know it is a fair amount but any info would be great
Thanks all

I paid around £460 but this was some years ago and carried out by a main dealer.

That cost included new cam belt, tensioners, water pump and bottom pulley.

Also when should the cam belt be done, every 40,000 miles?

Id budget around £250. I got mine done at CG Cars (mech repairs on here) and the bill was £288 but that included VAT and i also had my keys reprogrammed. It was a full cambelt, tensioner, waterpump and antifreeze change.

Nice !

Yeah i would have to look how many years ago it was done as the belts can wear with age as well as mileage

Where are CG cars located bennn?

Thanks again for the comments !

Leicester mate, it was a bit of a trek from me, but was cheaper than my local garages, have a good reputation and were the only place i found (other than a main dealer) that would re-code my spare key!

Wrong. A cambelt won't display any signs of wear, it'll just snap and destroy your engine, costing you probably around £2,000 to rebuild.

Hence why it's important to change it when required Smile
