A MASSIVE THANKYOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP!

Had my car stolen last year and bought a GTI6 which had a few problems. Shortly after i got made redundant.
I had new brakes fitted, a full service new tyres the lot.
My mechanic was said sometimes the fans weren't starting properlly and was going to fit a manual switch, but he didn't. he was sure if the thermostat was gone or what.
It was overheating on holiday last year and got towed back to cardiff from west wales.
My mechanic said it was head gasket; i couldnt afford to fix it having lost my job so i took it off road.

9 months later i have a job and find a new mechanic who says he'd done a few tests and doesn't think its a gasket failure, but needs to get the car running to be sure. The rad fans aren't working though so i buy second hand fans from ebay, we fit them.
When he has a moment he goes to start the car but there's no life.
An electrician comes to look at it and checks everything, suggests and ECU failure.

Having bought new fans, i now need a new ECU or ECU fix just to find out if the head gasket has gone! another £150.

Luckily i posted on this forum and you guys suggested fuse 6. My mechanic changed it and everything is ok.
The fans work, the engine doesnt overheat and the gasket isnt gone.

My car has been off the road 9 months because my old mechanic lied to me.
It now has a load of problems from not being turned over through our harsh winter, but they are fixable.

Finally I will have my car back next week after it is MOTd; a year after I got shafted.

I am so happy and you guys helped me at every stage; provided detals of affordable/reputable mechaincs, offered even to do the work for me, offered to help by buying it off me when i thought about scrapping it, offered solutions when i had electrical problems.

U guys are the muts nutz and i'm so grateful - i would have been f*cked without you.

Pete.

TL;DR

In a dire situation, my car was irreparably buggered and without your advice and help it still would be or i would have spent tons and tons of cash on a lieing mechanic.
