Has anyone actually sent off their calipers for bigg red to re manufacture? Is it worth it? I'm having real sticking/squealing issues now with fronts and rears as the weather is warming up. But I dont have the confidence to clean them up as they need and refurb them, also time is a prob too! Plus they finish them to the colour/coating you prefer! Are they any good? Any other companies do this? Thanks ________________________________________ Still watching you... |

I'm interested in something like that too, wonder how much they'd charge to refurb the rears? I need some with brand spanking new bleed nipples, sick of trying to find 2nd hand ones with working nipples________________________________________ Bye bye Sundance Kid |

I have emailed them for a quote to do both fronts and rears with everything replaced and finished in a polymer coating! I've asked if they can do a break down of the quote in case i just do the rears and fronts separately. I will let you know what they say when/if they reply! ________________________________________ Still watching you... |

From my experience with Bigg Red, their refurbishment prices are pretty expensive.I found out the hard way with my Brembos, they gave me one price but neglected to tell me that there would be charges if any additional work was needed to repair them. I canno't be sure if there was any actual "additional work" required, because I wasn't able to go and see them for myself as I'm a fair distance away. So, in the end we came to an agreement on the price, still more than I expected but hey ho, as they agreed I was not informed properly about the extra charges they could impose. It may have changed now, but I would say that there are probably cheaper places about who would do just as good a job. Doesn't Carl (mechanical_repairs) do refurbed calipers on an exchange basis? I'm sure there was a thread about it, quite reasonable prices from what I can remember too. |

I think you're right. Seem to remember the thread was a couple years old though so unsure if he still can do them! ________________________________________ Still watching you... |

Ok, got the email back from them today and this is what they sent:"Hello, ok prices as follows for polymer coating. Prices include VAT front calipers are £149 per pair rear calipers are £179 per pair Caliper slider brackets coated are £30 per pair P&P £16 (4 calipers) £9.90 (2 calipers) 10% discount is given when all 4 calipers are sent in at the same time. If you wish to go ahead simply send your calipers to us with a copy of this email and your contact details. Ok, working it out based on the prices above, with Bigg Red, I would be paying £363.60 inc VAT and the 10% discount.Looking at something like brakeparts the calipers alone come to £310.06 inc VAT, and then I'd need the new pistons, sliders, rubbers etc. Plus they wont be painted, so Bigg Red actually seems ok for remanufactured ones with everything included an finished with the polymer coating! Can anyone recommend anyone else who can do this? Steve ________________________________________ Still watching you... |

Sod that, you could get a nice set of Brembo's or probably second hand hispecs for that price. Just get some off Carl (Mechanical Repairs) and spend the remaining 250 quid on crack or something. At the end of the day, you would be spending a quarter of the value on your car on something pretty and red that won't make you stop any better. ________________________________________ 1992 Onyx Black 205 GTI-62005 Honda S2000 (Sold) 2002 Audi S3 (Sold) 2005 Clio 182 Trophy (sold) |

Big Redd are fairly expensive for full refurb. For the sake of a weekends work preparation i found it much cheaper to do it myself, get them shotblasted and powdercoated and then fit their kit myself. For all 4 done myself its cost me under £90 These are mine from old to refurbed: click here |

They look good benn! Hmm, I will investigate other options! Would it be car repairers that could do the blasting and painting/coating!? Or is it more specialized? gman, you're right, the car isn't worth much more tbh! ________________________________________ Still watching you... |

Thanks. I took mine to my local powdercoater. He charged me £12 for each one to be shotblasted and coated. With everything going up I reckon a good price for todays market will be around the £15 mark for each one. Although Im sure there's someone on here who can do it for you in their spare time. He also does polishing. Ill have a snout and get the link up. Not sure what he charges though or even stil does it.Not the one i was thinking of but: click here Heres who I was talking about: click here |
