Does this sound concerning?
youtube

The microphone on my camera hasn't picked it up very well, it's not as high pitched and not nearly as loud. You'd not be able to hear it if the bonnet was down.

sounds like it could be similar-ish to this one but no where near as f*cked and without the tapping.

Any ideas?

I've got the exact same sound coming from my gti 6. It's a strange high pitch noise but not loud enough to hear with the bonnet down. I've asked a number of people now and with no luck so if anyone hear has any ideas i would be very interested.

It could be dry bearings on the aux belt idle roller or tensioner. Start the engine with the aux belt off and see if the noise is still there.

I'm mechanically inept, probably never be able to get the belt back on again. What does it drive, the aircon compressor, alternator?
