Ok so my gear stick has recently started dancing pretty bad, i have read as many threads as i can to give myself a proper conclusion but im not sure my conclusion is right.

As above the gearstick dances and under hard acceleration the car and dashboard rattles and the gear stick dance becomes alot worse. this seems to be coming from the O/S also under cornering quite hard to the left it makes a kind of banging noise (rattle becomes worse).

If you corner hard the opposite way its fine. i have also checked as best i can (correct me if my method of checking is bullshit) the lower engine mount.

i had a mate put it into first gear and bring the clutch up to biting point with the hand brake on, from the top of the engine there seems very little movement. From the underneath where the lower mount is with the same method applied there is also very little movement.

Can i conclude the engine mount is fine and that it is the driveshaft at fault?

sounds likely to be the r/h driveshaft, specifically the inner joint, though the transmission mounting may be allowing the engine to move across sideways under cornering making this even worse.

Neighbours car started doing this just yesterday and he took me out in it - car shakes violently under any application of power rfom about 30mph onwards.

Searching and searching on here gives two answers - the most common is driveshaft woes, the second and less common is a dead balljoint.

Thanks guys.

I replaced both ball joints less than a month ago so I'm hoping when I change the driveshaft it solves the problem.

Quick update.

Under close inspection the lower engine mount seems a little tired with a couple of cracks in the rubber bush. One from pug has been ordered for £20 +vat not bad for a stealers I thought.

As for the O/S shaft I can move it up and down slightly and in and out if that makes sense. Should it be doing this? I ask this because the second hand one I have received moves in an out slightly from the outer cv end but it doesn't move up and down Dunno

the lower engine mount will perish with age but i doubt if its the problem.

get a service exhange driveshaft from a motor factors. think there only about 50 quid once the credits issured for your current one

Thanks mate.

£50 for for an O/S one? That's pretty damn good!

So are you drawn to the same conclusion as me a f*cked driveshaft which is causing my problems?

Thanks again Matt.
