mmmmmmmm, chips. In short, no, not really. The ignition system on the GTI-6 is fairly basic and you won't get the increases you'd manage from, say, a VW diesel. Getting more power out of the engine is actually quite tricky. I personally think that a decat, exhaust and induction kit do the square route of f*ck all and really a set of cams is the basic start point for more power. This will run to over £1k fitted in reality, once the car has been mapped, so you're probably better off looking at supercharging, which is pricey. Not the answer you're looking for but, for me, it makes no sense to spend money getting more power out of a GTI-6 now days. If more power is your desire then outing the six for a Megane 225 or whichever is probably the more sensible move. That or a SC kit ________________________________________ You didn't see anything. You'll need lairy cams for 200bhp.Bear in mind that the 2.0 liter lump in the GTI-6 is the most powerful normally aspirated 2.0l engine without any variable valve trickery and you can sort of see that it's close to the edge of what's achievable with the hardware that's already there. In my humble opinion you have three options, enjoy as is, cams or a SC kit. 1 and 3 would be the only ones I'd consider myself ________________________________________ You didn't see anything. Ok cool I was thinking of pitting some cams into it and then some throttle bodies maybe I wasn't expecting a chip to achieve that and willing to spend over a grand on it anyway |

Next step then is to choose your cams wisely. Most won't fit without pocketed pistons - these engines have very little clearance and will mash the valves given half a chance. You are honestly better off spending on suspension/ brakes/lighter wheels/good tyres than going for a headline power figure on these cars. That is unless you spend £4k odd on a low boost charger or about £2k on a (harder) V6 conversion. ________________________________________ Nothing to see here |
