My supercharged engine will be finished soon, just need a few things to know before i can start Smile

Do i need NGK Iridium spark plugs on low boost engine? If yes, whats the exact part number?

What is the best oil to use (only road, use not going on track)? Car will be only driven in summer.
Anything else than royal purple, something that is availaible in germany, too. And wich grade should it have?

Supercharger has a run in period of 60 miles. Is it ok to drive with 95 or 98 octane petrol if i rev it to only 3k? After the run in period i'll use Shell V-Power.

Thanks guys for help.

Pics of the project/conversion?! Happy

Doesn't need to be NGK Iridium specifically, just good quality plugs. The important part is that they are one or two heat ranges colder. I run BKR7EIX, I know several other people do too.

As for engine oil, is this low boost or high boost? For high boost I would probably stick to Royal Purple or whatever Rich W recommends, but it is very expensive. For low boost I have had no problems running a good quality fully synth i.e. I run Mobil 1 0w40 and have done on a couple of trackdays, but then I have good oil cooling courtesy of Laminova. I would suggest Silkolene/Fuchs Pro S 10W50.

Hope this helps Thumbs up

I think you use a grade 7 plugs for the low boost supercharger (as above) -which is one grade cooler than standard, -don't use standard o.e plugs they can get too hot and pre-ignite cause knock and destroy your engine, I would use the Iridium ones, they are cheap enough on e-bay,

I use Royal purple oil but if that's unavailable/too expensive I have used Mobil 15W50 when I was low boost,

Use high octane fuel only i.e super unleaded or Vpower,

and enjoy the supercharger conversion, it makes the car such a pleasure to drive Smile

Reasonably cheap here

What's the need for using 95ron petrol just for the 60 mile run in period? Not worth the risk is it...

I'd only run it on super unleaded.

You REALLY don't want to be f*cking your engine up for the sake of a few quid.

Already have one Big grin

Thanks guys so much for all the replies Thumbs up

I will then go for the NGK iridium plugs and run always with high octane fuel as i dont want to risk any damage.
I'm going to take many pics during the conversion and will upload them in the project section Smile
Think i will be the first guy from germany who have a supercharger in his 6....feels good LOL

Felix,

You want the NGK BKR7EIX spark plugs.

You should always use a high octane fuel, the higher the better. The issue is the engine has a high static compression ratio, and couple with boost means very high peak cylinder pressures. The high pressure and associated heat encourage detonation (where the air fuel burns uncontrollably) which is fatal for any engine.

Higher octane fuels burn more controllably /slowly at higher temperatures and pressures, meaning the air fuel mix burns steadily with a nice even flame front moving from the inlet to the exhaust side of the combustion chamber.

As for oil, we recommend Royal Purple XPR51 which is a 20W50 fully synthetic. Avoid low viscosity oils as these generally offer low oil film strength when hot.

Good luck and enjoy Wink

Goodluck with the conversion.

Use the higher octane fuel from the start.

What supercharger are you gonna use?

sorry to hijack your thread, but would it be possible to add octane booster to the fuel to use in the S/C conversion? The problem over here is nearly every station bar Maxol just have 95ron, Maxol has the E5 which is 99ron, but the closest Maxol to where i live is a little over 20miles away
