Both are possible symptoms of dead sensors, but not the same sensor.

The mixture enrichment and fans are controlled by different sensors. I'd be looking at either an airlock in the thermostat housing and the engine bay earth points first.

The gauge sender is blue, the ECU sensor is green and the one for the fans is brown.

On a Rallye the brown one is missing and there's a thermoswitch in the radiator instead for the fans.

think it could be the sensor at the fan is faulty, unplugged it and the fans go off?
