Hi,

Currently loaning my Brothers nice looking Phase3 '6' which had been sat for about 6 months doing nothing. I've done about 300 miles in last 4 weeks or so and all has seemed fine (new brakes asside) and really enjoying driving it.

However, yesterday I started to hear an odd graunching sound when pulling away from junctions and now, on a short trip to the shops it suddently got worse with bad knocking on right bends. I thought it was a CV problem so slowed right down and with only a couple of miles to go tried to limp it home. It was getting worse and worse and jerking steering wheel - dodgy I know, but I just wanted it home!

Got into the yard at my house and happy that I had not needed a tow I selected reverse, let the clutch in and.... nothing. Just the sound of rattling cogs. Bugger. Tried other gears and same, no drive and the horrid sound of something broken (the differential possibly?).

So anyone suggest the extent of damage here? Am I right with the diff? Could other bits be damaged? Would I be best sourcing another 'box or just bolting on a new diff, if thats possible?

Your help, wise people, please.Sad

Just a minute....

Am I jumping to conclusions? It could well just be a broken shaft, no? That was my first thought when it started to go funny on the drive home.

I've no time to look at it tonight but really hoping it is just a new drive shaft needed and not a new box!
