Hey all.

Had me a lovely day today....had some time off work as its my birthday and what better way to celebrate than p*ssing around with a french hatch?! Dry

So after having fan problems in where the fans would need a physical knock to get them to come on at the right water temps it was decided that i had lazy fan motors.

So sourced some used fans with cowling from PugPlus (thanks very much richard) and set about having the old ones off.

Im just going to post the pics as im too tired now to explain how its done.

All you need to know really is how to jack the car up and support it then take the bumper off (follow the guide in the FAQ section)

Take the headlamps out (how on earth do people snap the clips on these? its a piece of p*ss!)

Unscrew the slam panel and rest it on the engine

To remove the old fans you just have to be very careful and lift up the compressor and rad with some sort of leverage (this is how i did it anyway) and there are 4 rubber bungs that the rad and compressor sit on and into the fan cowling holding the fans in place.
You also need to unclip the fans from the slam panel at the top.

Refitting is the reverse of removal! LOL

Any questions fire away.

Bloody knackered now though. Beers o'clock soon..... Cheers

Be careful to remove all the dead rotting bird bodies and insects down there whilst your there....LOL

Finished!

Im a bit of a novice and it took me about 5hrs30 from start to finish.

Oh and new fans tested many many times and they spin up now when they should do.

Result! Big grin

Cheers Big grin

I didnt remove them just the bottom two screws so i could gain access to behind the bumper!

The biggest arse ache was getting those 2 sets of 2 screws out so i could take the bumper off.

I swore many, many times! LOL

People don't break the clips intentionally on the headlights, the bushes seize against the bolts. When the bolt turns it takes the bush with it and snaps off.

I wouldnt really know but tbh, you will have to get the bumper off to do that anyway and i cant see you not making a mess of the surrounds when you mask off what you dont want painted anyway.

Think they can be removed pretty easily.

Have fun with the bumper! LOL

Just be really careful with the rad and condensor when your taking the fans out. Smile

Because the bumper is an awkward little slut.

There are 2 screws either side of the car below and behind the headlamps which you have to unscrew almost blindly (not really being able to see them) OR very easily get a socket set or spanner over them.

I got a bit irrate at one point LOL

The FAQ was all i needed.

Its good but when it came to finding those two sets of screws just remember to undo the bottom engine liner flaps (just infront of the arches at the front of the car) so you can get your hands up and in below/behind the headlamps to find those screws.
