Hi folks,

My car has been sat for three weeks dead at my local garage and im at my wits end!

The garage had a bog standard reader which comes up with ECU failure and doesnt even turn over now (car progressively started cutting out over a period of weeks until it finally died Angry )

I bought a second hand ECU, immobiliser box and transponder chips off here, but the garage says this has not fixed the problem. The mechanic did say though that the ECU part numbers were slightly different?!?!?

My car is an early 99/T plate gti6 and the ECU etc came off a 98/S plate rallye. Would there be a difference in the ECU from these cars?

I think my gti6 is fondly referred to as a phase 2.5 where you have a few bit and bobs which are different but isnt quite a phase 3 if you get my meaning.

so far its clocked up about 5 hours in labour and the money spent on the second hand parts and im still back at square one!!!!!

if it get anymore expensive im gonna end up spending the value of the car just on labour!

searching under the forum hasnt really remidied my problem either.

help Crazy

cheers

Tom

change your garage as it is obvious they are useless.

have you thought about contacting wayne from chip wizards about this?

This may be why you're not getting diagnostic info from the ECU. The MM 1AP.10 uses a rather obscure communications format that only certain diagnostic tools can read.

I'd be thinking about getting the car to a Peugeot specialist at this point as your current garage don't seen to know what's going on. Get the original ECU and associated parts re-fitted and get it on a diagnostic machine that can definitely read pre-2000 Peugeot petrol ECU's.

The additional problems you now have could be the original fault escalating or could just be complications arising from the ECU being swapped.

Based on the limited information you've given about the problem I'd say it's most likely to be the crank sensor or a mixture control issue.

i rang him yesterday and he said he hasnt been able to look at it this week. the last thing he said he was doing was sending my original ecu off to a specialist for repair/testing but i dont think he has even done this.

im on night shifts today so im gonna pop down and see if he has. i may just take both ecu's off him and sent it off myself!

You can send the ECU to me if you want? I can test it and repair it as necessary.

I don't mind which ECU you send, either should be fine. There are several variants, but they are all inter-changeable.

It could be an immobiliser problem, most diagnostics equipment (even machines that are able to communicate on the correct protocol) won't be able to communicate with it and will indicate it's failed if the ECU is immobilised...

Let you know if you want me to look at it.
