Hi guys, going to the ring in May and I'm putting some Sparcos in.

Has anybody got a photo of a 306 floor - its seats, so I can see what I'm dealing with for making subframes or adapter plates? And if anybody knows, the dimensions of the drop between the seats so I can check if I can mount the seats central.

I am going to make my own brackets you see, so I wanted to know roughly how Im going to make them.

Cheers.

The tunnel is too wide to let you fit a seat inbetween the tunnel and the sill. So that leaves you with two choices, modify the tunnel by cutting out a section, or (As most people do because it's easier, mount the brackets on top of the tunnel and the side of the sill)

Rikky, they are the proper FIA mounts arent they?

Are the seats on bolt in sliders or is there a runner on the sill and tunnel? What I dont want to do it cut away the original fittings for the factory seats leaving myself unable to put the original seats back in the future.

Has anybody got a picture of some seat mounts in the car with no seat? Either side or base mounted, the seats I will have take either.

cheers again.

To be honest mate for the work (and if you want to maintain the ability to put the original seats back in) I'd just get some 306 subframes from Demon Tweeks, four bolts, in-out job with no dicking around with your car whatsoever.

Seats are then adjustable for different drivers, don't even have to take out the carpet if you don't want to.

sorry i must have misunderstood. to get mine in (as above pics) i've cut the runners out but not into the tunnel itself, but i did have normal sparco mounts before the car was as hardcore - see below:

that way i could just remove it and put a standard seat back in..

heres what i did, just welded a bar in between tunnel and sill. side mounts sitting onto tunnel and using original bolt holes. when i sold the car i just cut out the bar and bolted the standard seat back in.

Can I bump this back up now...

I have seats, but now I'm looking into harnesses.

A friend of mine has a set of 6 point quick release Titon harnesses which are awesome, I'm tempted to get them but wondered if there are any tried and tested ones that most people use?

Am I right in thinking that all I'll need to do is replace the rear belt mounts with eyelet bolts, and the lap belt mounts with eyelet bolts and thats it I can QR the harnesses into those points and I'm away? As shown in the photo just up from this post.

You can,but m ost people fitting harnesses prefer to do it properly and mount the shoulder straps from a purpose built harness bar to get them up at a sensible height so they work more effectively in a crash.

I appreciate that, however I cannot afford a proper cage yet. I'm going to the Ring in may and can't be dealing with falling out of my seats.

Am I right in thinking that ideally you want 20* from horizontal as a guideline for the shoulder straps from their mounts? Can you buy a harness bar for a 306?

These are the harnesses I am going to get - http://www.primamotorsport.com/prima_motorsport_products/titon_harness/titon_harness.html

unless you're a big fat bas**rd you wont fall out of the standard seats, I certainly wouldn't entertain buckets without a cage No

you can get a cage with a harness bar, or a harness bar fitted to a cage.

there is no structure at the rear of a 306 strong enough to bolt one to without a cage.

here's some guidance from the MSA'a blue book;

Thanks, thats very helpful!

I must be a fat bas**rd then, cos' when I corner hard I find myself falling out the seats. I'm the best part of 6ft2, so I find the seats too short at the back. The parts that should be supporting my shoulders are supporting my stomach so I feel a bit top heavy in them.

Heres the seats modeled by my friend Dave -

They were a right bargain Big grin

You don't need a full cage for a harness bar, get a 50mmx2mm wall thickness CDS (Cold drawn seamless, IMPORTANT THAT IT IS CDS or T45) tube with some nice reinforced plates each end 120mmx120mmx3mm square (MAKE SURE THIS IS DONE BY A COMPETENT WELDER, NOT SOME SCROTE WITH A 90 AMP HOBBY MIG) drill and bolt these in near the top of the rear arches and hey presto a harness bar at near enough the right height. Remember to do a good job as the shoulder and lap straps could end up taking a 40G hit if you crash badly.

Well yeah, that was pretty much my plan. I've seen a couple of cars with this done, and as a temporary measure until I get a full cage it'll be what I do.

Any pointers to harnesses, or opinions on the Titon ones?

I found that the Prima Motorsport ones were good value, bont bother wth 2" wide ones though, go for 3" 5 or 6 points if you want to do it right and find a friendly MOT tester as thy dont like propper race belts as they don't carry DOT specification labels Wink

what with the number of rusty rear arches I'd not bolt anything to them...

You would obviously through drill the arches and use sandwich plates on the other side. Nothing is going to pull that out. Just don't drill through the tyres or fuel filler neck. And feed the bolts in from the outside so the heads are in the wheel wells (Weld them to the plate if you are smart, its a one man job to tighten the nuts inside the car then) that way you wont have to worry about the threaded part of the bolt tearing out your sidewalls on your tyres. Oviously check for clearance and if you need to sort any rubbibg etc. do it before you go to the Ring.

Here is a pic of my harness bar, i had some plates made up from a friend to go on the outer side of the wheel arch, drilled them through and bolted in in so the head of the bolt was in the wheel arce and the nut was inside, i put the plate under the wheel arch liner and bolted through the liner 1st Cool
